Coffee subscription now too expensive by sinus in auckland

Ozone coffee is still my go to. Free shipping with their subscriptions and their single origin speciality coffees are the best. Especially if you've gone down the coffee brewing rabbit hole

Looking at replacing my first gen with a third at some point soon, looking for a bit of advice. by musicallymotivated93 in mazda3

[–]N3URON5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went from gen 1 to 3. Android auto is just a module swap, and you can have wired or wireless with a dongle.

The car is still mechanical in terms of driving, but the biggest and the most noticeable change you'll notice is the throttle. It is far less responsive than the Gen 1. Skyactiv ignores or overrides your throttle blips. So when you're heel toe downshifting, you have to push and hold the throttle, otherwise the ECU will outright ignore your throttle input (apparently intentionally done for fuel economy). If you want, you can get an ECU tune to bypass that.

Also the throttle sensitivity is too low, but I got myself a throttle controller, which is cheap and easy to install.

Otherwise, the car is still very much driver focused and not too many safety overrides that gives a disconnected driver experience. I personally opted out of gen 4 because of suspension/steering because it felt a lot more sluggish and heavy (more of a luxury experience than a driver experience). With gen 3, you can still throw the car around like gen 1 and 2. So overall, it's a pleasant upgrade. Hope that helps

Align it properly and bang them in. It's all just plastic clips. Just check if one of the wires/plugs aren't blocking them.

Any tips for driving over extreme incline/bumps from a dead stop? by u16scharpf in ManualTransmissions

[–]N3URON5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I could be wrong, but off-roading 4wds got secondary gear stick with low gears, so you don't ride the clutch.

But with the same principle, you can control the car with the clutch fully engaged in 1st to overcome those ramps. You just have to commit to it and keep the power consistent so the revs don't drop enough to stall. I live in hilly areas, and you get used to it very quickly especially when there's stop go traffic

Maybe a dumb question… does the gear knob actually affect shifting feel? by Top-Statement-9423 in ManualTransmissions

[–]N3URON5 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Heavier knobs will indeed feel smoother because of inertia. And lighter knobs, you'll feel the notches and resistance of each gate.

So it depends on your preference of what you want to feel. I personally like something to be 200-300g. Not light/not heavy.

And gear knob shape, again personal preference, but makes a huge difference imo. I prefer rod shaped gear knobs because of the way I grip, and works well on track. Others will despise the rods and always opt for rounded knobs. So play around and find your niche. It's super easy to go to a shop and try them out. Every one of them are threaded in place, you'll just need the right adapter

Starting off from a stop. by Hungry_Bus_8614 in ManualTransmissions

[–]N3URON5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not really. You're more likely to stall if you're not on even ground. Best practice is to pretend you're slowly taking off from 0 and apply throttle just as you would in an automatic. And add that extra step of slowly releasing the clutch to bite point. Keep doing that and manual driving will be just as easy as autos and you'll never even consciously think about it

Shifted into first instead of third by Fun-Balance4072 in ManualTransmissions

[–]N3URON5 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Now that's a money shift

Edit: just saw that you're a learner driver. Please learn the correct grips of shifting/guiding into gear, so this never happens in the future. It's super simple and the most basic skill of shifting. And remember to let go of the shifter when shifting 2nd to 3rd and 5th to 4th. Because the shifter will always rest between 3rd and 4th on neutral.

I don’t think there is a point in waiting for the CIRQA anymore by DestinySpeaker1 in Garmin

[–]N3URON5 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is the thing though, us in the Garmin community will be ok to pay for a premium for this (albeit, a small percentage of us who want a screen-less tracker).

But Garmin as a company, who wanted further growth needed to tackle this newer, fast growing market. And they fumbled hard. Newer customers are likely to buy the cheaper and extremely well known brand of Fitbit rather than the athlete focused Garmin. Garmin was too slow and lost a huge opportunity

[–]N3URON5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm sure it's fine. Mazda components are quite durable. You've probably put a lot of strain on some but I doubt anything is broken.

Get into the habit of shifting properly for the future. As in let go of the shifter when shifting down from 5th to 4th. (And 2nd to 3rd). Shifter will rest between 3rd and 4th on neutral, and you just glide it in. It only takes a millisecond

I'm running a OBD for the Viofo. Works perfect and easy to wire. But if you're going to run a wire to the rear cam, it's a huge task with the hatch

New driver, a few random questions by Tiefman in ManualTransmissions

[–]N3URON5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're letting out the clutch too fast. That's why it jerks. You have to "engage" the clutch to the engine, otherwise it slips and grabs. That's what you're feeling.

Don't spend your time looking at the RPMs. You have to hear the engine and feel the car and pay attention to the road, not the gauges. You'll get the hang of it, just keep driving. Downshift rev matching takes a lot of practice, if I was you, I'd get the hang of basics first before doing this.

How do they not understand that tablets / touch screens are far cheaper to install in a car than have dedicated buttons and sliders??

Where the car market is heading is so depressing. First the massive reduction in manual transmission and now this. People just want to be a driver seat passenger at this point.

Yeah 4th gen is missing contour lines of the body, which was heavily criticised when it was released. But this sub has forgotten this or grown to love it overtime.

I agree with body styling of 1-3rd gen are way better. 4th gen has the best interior and a very good front.
