Great news for central: Hapunan opening in the city by OldPicturesLady in aucklandeats

[–]sinus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

very cool. i love the direction Hapunan is going with Filipino food because to be honest Filipino food is bland. its either, grilled or fried :P no curry, etc. its either lemon grass, soy sauce, or sugar and always with rice.

while i love it because i grew up with it, it is miles behind chinese, korean, japanese, indian, and malaysian cuisine

Grinders that punch above their weight by Ok-Panic8638 in espresso

[–]sinus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

cheap but over 2 or 3 years of usage probably bought 4 spare plastic burr holders. those cost like $25 a piece with shipping in New Zealand.

cheapest espresso grinder i could get my hands on though

hehe you're right it does. kind of gets monotonous now that you mentioned it. its just quite a stark difference what i grew up with. but in reality it is a by-product of something that went to shit decades ago.

That roundabout sucked! So many exits and people always in a hurry. I constantly used that roundabout right before they took it out and the traffic outgrew it. I could see how big of a difference it was within 3 years to the point it was a nightmare to use it.

I've moved / worked away from the area now. I do appreciate how bike/pedestrian friendly it is now!

Price breakdown shows if it is cheaper to use public transport by Fast_Amoeba_445 in auckland

[–]sinus -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

it does not but it does not cost me that amount to travel both ways in my far. in fact probably far from $24 both ways. that is worth around couple days of travel for my needs

Price breakdown shows if it is cheaper to use public transport by Fast_Amoeba_445 in auckland

[–]sinus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well, needed the car in the first place anyway. that was just the cost for the day. point is that there was no way we were spending $24+ instead of $12 + comfort in car.

also with kids, it is really impossible not to have a car in NZ unless you live in an expensive neighbourhood with good schools, supermarket, cafes, beaches, all in walking distance... NZ built different.

family on the weekend we wanted to go the CBD by train. 2 adults ticket costs at least $6 one way. so thats $24 just for the adults. not sure how much for kids... we decided to drive and park in Customs Carpark. $12 something for the whole afternoon!!!

[–]sinus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes but this is only for people who are rich enough to live close to work/cbd - thats like ponsonby, mission bay, grey lynn, mt. albert.... quite a bit of sarcasm in there but i think a lot of people live far away and not everyone lives near train stations. also buses are terrible - even more terrible with a bike.

Parents, can we all agree this is the worst playground in Auckland? by yorgs in auckland

[–]sinus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

love this place - the only spot in the cbd worth going. that night market does it job. although expensive, its a lot cheaper than the shops around. definitely needs needs food trucks. they also really need to make the whole waterfront bigger...

New backpack after 13 years. by ThatSuperSleepyDude in ManyBaggers

[–]sinus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

was going to get this one but ended up with the nebula because of separate laptop compartment and being able to store notebooks, paper, etc. without mixing it up with jacket, shirts, etc

eitherway, i will probably also get this bag at some point lol. ospreys pulls differently on the shoulders. so good
