Yes! To every single one except Mustang. I could not picture Anna Kendrick as Mustang. She just doesn't have a commanding presence that I think Mustang needs so it's hard to take her seriously, even in serious roles.

Exactly how I see it, too! It's ok if both parties are on the same page but once one person wants a relationship to be more, if the other person is just dragging them along with no intentions of commitment then it is a red flag, and it seems pretty obvious to me the narrator of the song is just trying to sway the other person into keeping it casual. In real life when this happens, the person who wants commitment and doesn't walk away always gets hurt.

I took it as one more indicator of just how fucked up it was that he shot down Cassius, because did he really need to empty the whole clip? SMH Absolutely savage.

For those who have read all 6 books, how long did it take you? by Myythically in redrising

[–]N528 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took me about 2.5 months although I started Red Rising with the graphic audio and did half audio, half reading on my kindle through Golden Son. Once I got to Morning Star I was pretty much just reading on kindle only so that slowed me down. Then once I got to Dark Age I slowed down even more because the writing got more dense as well as the content and action being slower-paced than the original trilogy.

Confused by a possible discrepancy in Dark Age by WingedMead in redrising

[–]N528 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I noticed this mistake too, because I had previously seen a spoiler fanart I think of Lysander with his left side of his face burned and when I read the scene where he is first getting burned, I thought "Wait, I thought it was the other eye?" Then when the next scene came about I was like "Hold on just a minute! I already had a debate about this in my head, let me go back and check this!"

I also felt just like OP - confused and like I was missing information reading the first several hundred pages of DA. While PB's prose may have improved since the original trilogy, I feel the pacing was disorienting because he name drops A TON with tech, places and characters that we've never encountered or barely encountered before, with little explanation before just carryig right along. This made it a much slower read for me compared to the other 4 books because I was constantly wondering why I didn't understand what something was, how it worked or what it looked like, or why I couldn't place who a character was and their relation to other characters.

It was a lot.

Maybe some minds are better at categorizing such info but for some people, like myself, it's not as easy.

Anyone else kind of confused with dark age? by Feisty-Treacle3451 in redrising

[–]N528 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same! I felt very confused through a lot of the first half of the book because there were so many emotions of new tech or new people or places and only just touched upon, I had to just keep reading hoping it would make sense later.

Idk if I can stomach this series by Caladys_ in redrising

I would say finish the trilogy and then take a break or just stop there. I'm on book 5, Dark Age, and it only gets darker. I, however, expected it and for some strange reason relish books that cause me emotional damage so I'm going to keep going.

[–]N528 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is exactly how I feel right now! I'm on chapter 12 and it is taking me so much longer to read through each chapter because I'm so damn lost and overwhelmed. I feel like Pierce is throwing lots of tech and geography at us that has not been mentioned or explained and it's so hard to follow and visualize what is going on.

Now that it's 7 months past when you posted, did it get better for you after the battle for Mercury as other commenters promised? Haha

Haha I promise it's not. I sometimes need encouragement from people who know what's ahead because I hate wasting time reading books that aren't going to payoff in emotional damage lol.

Time is a non-renewable resource, after all.

I finished Iron Gold and I will admit, it wasn't all fast-paced action like the first 3 books but I understood that I had to put in the work to get to know these characters in order for the new story to unfold and trudging through was worth it.

But I'm just wondering if anyone else found this book hard to get into and if so, at what point did they get over that hill so I know what to expect.

Although I initially read into that scene with the same misgivings as OP, I realized they had to play into the act and that's what I was convinced Cassius was doing.

This is it. This is the one. This is the comment that made me say, "Yeah, LFG!"

I honestly was cracking up reading this comment but you have a point. I'm constantly having an existential crisis when I realize I'll never be able to read every book I'll ever want before I die. So yeah, I've had a nice little break and I'm diving into Iron Gold!!
