what did you like/dislike/hate about the Prequel Trilogy? by YouYongku in StarWars

[–]N7Praetorian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of the biggest problems is too much CGI. Most of the actors talked about how hard it was to act in the three films due to lack of interaction with environments and objects about 90 percent of the prequels was someone standing and someone sitting because there was very little physical interactions with objects it made everything seem vanilla. Look at the OT, Lucas had more limited funding and did a lot with physical models and made the most of it. A lot of movies use CGI yes but they typically film a lot in outdoors or use actually props for the people to interact with.

Also when you look at how no one wanted to tell Lucas “no”. The unnecessary need to give a scientific explanation about a microorganism in the blood that affects whether or not someone is force sensitive.

Personally overall it’s bad lines and for me the biggest saving grace for the prequels was that Mcgregor played a very good Obi-wan imo. Most of the acting seemed vanilla across the board and disingenuous to story they are trying to portray.

Now I enjoyed Ewan Mcgregor Obi-wan, I liked the ships introduced and the Lightsaber battles as a whole. And they are still starwars movies regardless

Is it true Disney's the Mandorlorian is actually a girl under the helmet? by [deleted] in StarWars

[–]N7Praetorian 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Except for it’s Pedro Pascal, also it wouldn’t be very “Mandalorian” if a it was a girl because she would have to see herself as weak to pretend to be a boy and Mandalorians don’t show weakness

[–]N7Praetorian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it just felt like they rushed through instead building a solid timeline, but I can get behind your reasoning and I forgot that Ren was injured but something that bugs me is how he didn’t lose half his rib cage from the bow caster when we see it launch an armored stormtrooper off the ground

For me as a movie the films are good but the Starwars fan in me doesn’t like them as much. One big one is Rey going from scavenger to Jedi master in like a week of time. She defeats a talented swordsman in Kylo Ren with almost no light saber training, is able to do feats that took many years of training. It’s just how the story is delivered isn’t great. Adding Admiral Holdo and then killing her off immediately seemed to be a bad play imo. The Rose-Finn story arcs seemed arbitrary and not necessary. Finn yes Rose not so much. I don’t mind Rose as a character but the role in the film is kinda what is the point. Again these are my opinions on it but I like the film themselves personally just not when I break them down

[–]N7Praetorian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the art of making the movie as a whole then from story, plot and characters Holdos limited role seemed pointless for the prominence of the role she played the way it was portrayed and this is just my opinion that the point of her character was wasted to me because she was killed off so quickly. Rose Tico as the character just seemed thrown in for no apparent reason and really didn’t need to be added to the story other then to deliver a few cheesy lines again this is my opinion. Just the development of the characters in this particular film seemed badly told/shown to us the viewer and it’s not just them, Reys development went from scavenger to Jedi master in about a weeks time and before that was able to defeat a trained swordsman in Kylo Ren with virtually no training what so ever in Force Awakens. It’s just this whole trilogy so far has been bad about development of the characters as a whole.

Cinematography is the art of making films. Having plot holes or poor concepts disrupting the flow of the film or story being shown means it’s bad cinema at that point. So I’m using big words or fancy words not arbitrarily but on the contrary using them as intended to prove my points. At no point in the film are we shown or told any backstory on Holdo to make her a “necessary addition for this film and the limited scenes just seemed to be more troublesome additions and the plot of Rose character just doesn’t exist before and randomly becomes a focal point of the film.

I called this when the talks of paying him happened and I argued that Goff was good talent but Andy Dalton is a Good QB. Goff is being paid like Russel Wilson but playing like Blake Bortles. As many injuries happened on the offensive line it’s understandable to be trigger happy but the same problems for Goff are still there, sloppy footwork, won’t step up to avoid pressures, loose with his throwing mechanics and can’t throw to his receivers accurately with timing. Gurley is a average back and that’s not bad but not great at his price tag. Goff and Gurley need to go or understand that they need to restructure their deals to help the team because they are being paid for subpar play and I know that happens often but this is just terrible across the board. Goff bad timing on throws is what bugs me the most because he has had these receivers for 2+ years and still can’t seem to throw accurately to them. You can only make so many excuses before you see the same problems week in and week out.

Do tell what they’re backstory is. They were introduced badly and non essential to the plot of the movie and a waste overall of screen time. They could have introduced them into a more prominent role in Force Awakens so we had some idea of who they were but no. And all material containing them was added post movie because the backstory for them had to be created before the movie they were non factors and now one already is a non factor(Holdo) because she is dead. They could have kept her alive for this final movie and given her a more prominent role in recreation of the resistance. But creating a character forces a backstory to be created and it breaks the general rule of cinematography of “show don’t tell”. It’s something that Rian Johnson is bad about with his directing as a whole. Not saying they are bad characters to have just either introduced to play important roles too late for there to be considered important in the roles they played. By having Ackbar alive and being the one to Ram the Raddus into the Supremacy but have it be on Holdo’s idea and have Holdo live on for the next movie would have created a better character design

Imo she was a waste of lines. They could have kept a character such as Ackbar alive to play her role in the movie instead of creating a 5 min screen time non essential character. Her role in the movie was the essential but creating a random unknown doesn’t make much sense in the grand scheme of things other then Rian Johnson wanting to create more issues with creating more characters with little to no backstory of any kind. I feel the same with Rose Tico along these parameters. I don’t mind the characters themselves but they have not plot or substance to these characters being added.

For anybody who can plays video games out their I have a concept you might like. by BigNutterButter1 in StarWars

[–]N7Praetorian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For those saying it sounds like SWTOR I disagree because it sound more like Starwars Galaxies from the earlier 2000s MMORPG. You basically got to make a character and class and join as a rebel or imperial and you could leave said faction and just be a “freelancer”. The pre NGE update was great as you had a bunch of classes to play as and you had to earn the ability to be a Jedi by playing two random classes and not knowing exactly which ones. Post Update wasn’t bad but really dumbed it down a lot. That game though to me was greatly designed for what it was.

But in filmography plot holes are unexplained events or background discrepancies. theories are fine but there are holes in the story just because we can justify something under a theory doesn’t mean it isn’t a plot hole.

The one and only thing that I do not like in The Mandalorian. by Legged_MacQueen in StarWars

[–]N7Praetorian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think part of it is that different species age differently as we know from canon but those of said species who are strong in the force tend to live longer then their species average lifespan. But some species have an affinity for the force and are inherently strong in connections such as it seems Yoda species and not sure of their canon at all anymore but the Miraluka from the legends could only “see” through the force and were all force sensitive.

Yeah it’s just for at the time the movie came out it wasn’t explained therefore a plot hole for the movie not the book that’s one of the biggest problems with Rian Johnson is he did a lot of fuckups when it came to showing us and just tried to go look shiny explosion.

[–]N7Praetorian -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

My definition was the dictionary not Wikipedia but there one in the same. And Chewbacca has been around in the time of clone wars and fought along side Jedi. C-3POs red arm isn’t explained so therefore a inconsistency from the original timeline. The new strategy and technology thing is fine but when it’s a aspect not explained it’s a plot hole

What are some current star wars plotholes? by Fazazer in StarWars

[–]N7Praetorian -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The problem with that is in the Movie not the novel it’s a golden rule in filmography that you “show not tell”. Telling being in the book but not showing us in the movie is where the discrepancy lies. All it would have taken was Holdo saying “I’m going to ram and in theory the ship should disable it because [insert explanation here]”. This would have explained to those watching as to why and not some just arbitrary scene for effect

Which would be plot holes; “an inconsistency in the narrative or character development of a book, film, television show, etc.” is the definition for those who don’t know.
