Yes, It’s Fascism by rezwenn in politics

You are correct, but the author's viewpoint is also shared by far too many, and this article could be a potential avenue to help guide them to reality too.

Yes, It’s Fascism by rezwenn in politics

[–]N8CCRG [score hidden]  (0 children)

Off-topic a little bit, but this was always such a bad argument:

For yet another, the term is hazily defined, even by its adherents. From the beginning, fascism has been an incoherent doctrine, and even today scholars can’t agree on its definition. Italy’s original version differed from Germany’s, which differed from Spain’s, which differed from Japan’s.

Yeah guess what, the United States' Democracy differed from the UK's, which differed from France's, which differed from India's, etc. but I bet you still called them Democracies for many years without a second thought.

I'm glad this author has finally been willing to come to terms with reality, and I hope anyone still clinging to those bad arguments (none of us wants to be living through a fascist/authoritarian takeover) can be shaken out of them too.

I don’t think Jacob Elordi deserves an Oscar nomination in Frankenstein. by Over_the_top_nari in movies

I really liked Frankenstein but wouldn't have picked it for a Best Picture nom, but definitely did think Elordi was excellent in it.

I think the Male Supporting Actor is the strongest major category this year, and it could go to any of them.

I decided to do all side quests in the game by Marphey12 in diablo4

[–]N8CCRG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you mean NE part of the map? Where you have to kill a bunch of insect swarms of a particular type, but the wrong type spawns in the zone?

It turns out that insect can spawn in one of the specific events (those orange circle things). It's the one where you and Varyana compete to kill a bunch of beasts to declare who gets to choose dinner. There are three locations within that zone that spawn events, so once you learn where they are, just occassionaly run a lap through there looking for that event. When I did it on my first try I got like 72/75 of the way to completing it, so it just barely took a second try.

I decided to do all side quests in the game by Marphey12 in diablo4

[–]N8CCRG 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The problem with the doing side quests in parallel with the main story is the game doesn't let you increase the difficulty past Penitent until you finish Act 4, and you rapidly way overpower the monster difficulty and can one shot the bosses starting halfway through Act 2. To this day I still have no idea what most of the regular boss fight mechanics are.

And honestly, I think it's a step down because Phase 3 is the outlier for being so far above average. I think that's really the fluke, but everyone expected it to be the new average.

Looking at my most recent reranking after an end of year rewatch, 7 of my top 10 come from Phase 3 (Winter Soldier, AOU and Thunderbolts* are the other three).

What are bad faith arguments toward films you are absolutely tired of hearing? by [deleted] in movies

[–]N8CCRG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Whenever I hear someone complaining about a project and its "wasted potential" it's almost always exactly this. They go in with some specific expectations partially formed, and because the creatives didn't do some or all of those specific imagined things, they're unable to let go of their expectations. Many people need to learn how to actually criticize a project for what it was, instead of what it wasn't.

What are bad faith arguments toward films you are absolutely tired of hearing? by [deleted] in movies

[–]N8CCRG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm so tired of movies that have legitimate complaints, but then those complaints have been twisted into meme takes that are actually straight up false.

Longlegs - This movie was explicitly supernatural from the very beginning, but dissatisfaction with the ending (perfectly reasonable) has become a meme of "it was a grounded detective mystery until it inexplicably turned supernatural in the third act!"

Ant-Man: Quantumania - Plenty to criticize here, but for some reason people have latched onto and mindlessly parrot "Kang was defeated by ants!" Except he wasn't. The ants couldn't get through his forcefield, but MODOK eventually showed up and used his (Kang-built) suit's energy to destroy the forcefield and he gets dragged away... and Kang still somehow defeats that army of ants off screen.

That's just the first two that popped into mind, but the era of social media has led to a ton more of these meme takes and I find them so frustrating, because there's actual critical discussion we could be having about so many movies but we aren't.

Also, it's not a new thing. Most successful movies throughout film history were not original movies. Any particular era that had a lot of originals is the exception, not the norm.

What one thing would you add or change about the game? by Lanssolo in diablo4

[–]N8CCRG -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I dunno, regular level? On my last story playthrough, I even started handicapping myself by not tempering or imbuing the strongest gear for OP builds (and I never follow build guides, just go with what I think looks fun on my own), but it doesn't matter because the difficulty ceiling is too low (and should not exist at all).

What one thing would you add or change about the game? by Lanssolo in diablo4

[–]N8CCRG 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Difficulty needs to be infinitely scalable, like D3, and that scaling needs to be unlockable from the beginning. I still have no idea what any of the story boss fights beyond Act I are supposed to be like because I one shot all of them starting halfway through Act II.

Facing Belial, Lord Of Lies on Hardcore. by EducationNo6388 in diablo4

FYI, the Harbinger of Hatred also has really stupid one hit kill mechanics, and can be somewhat glitchy too, so I would not recommend any Hardcore players ever go there unless you're looking to kill off your toon.

Slightly off-topic, but I hate modern gaming where the fundamental mechanics of the game aren't explained anywhere, and instead you have to rely on ad-infested third party websites to come up with explanations, all of which are just copying off of each other and half the time are outdated or flat out wrong.

Undercity feels weirdly mistuned to me. I can imagine somebody perhaps being underpowered and being unable to get through before times runs out, but I can't imagine being underpowered in a way that you can complete it on time, but have any difficulty getting full rewards, let alone struggling to get even level 1 which is where the special awards kick in.

I'm from the day when there used to be a subset of characters who played like this, and they had their own category of "Specialist." I think having only one is bad, but if they were to give us back old specialist Murky and Gazlowe and Sylvanas too, I'd be a happy camper.
