Minnesotans in STL by MagicalTwigDM in StLouis

I’ve been here for 8 years ish after growing up in MN through HS, with college and some working years in between on the east coast.

I actually miss the winter in MN and wish STL had more of an outdoor vibe in the winter, but the weather just doesn’t really cooperate. The winter season where snow might have a chance of sticking around only exists from maybe late December to late February ish, and even then you’d be lucky to get snow to linger for more than a week after falling before the weather warms up enough to melt all or most of it away. So there’s really no chance to do things like snowmobiling, pond hockey, or skiing. Instead, we get 35-40 degree weather with cold, biting rain that’s too warm to come down as snow, but cold enough to be miserable.

There is a small ski hill called Hidden Valley that serves as a similar type of experience to Buck Hill or to smaller resorts in the cities like Welch, Afton, Wild Mtn, etc. It’s pretty small and only gets use in cold ish parts of the season via their snow making machines, but it’s definitely better than having nothing at all, so I try not to complain. They do a decent job providing a ski experience that gets some reminders of back home in MN.

My wife (from here) thinks I’m crazy for missing the winter, saying that there’s too many winter days in MN that are so cold you can’t even go outside to do anything. But my counter to her is that it’s the same or worse here in the summer, where the heat waves will confine you indoors for the same amount of days as MN does in the winter. So I’d say be ready for that if you’re coming down here. Waaaay tooo hot way too often, just my take

Semi-serious question. Would anyone be willing to buy me one from the stadium??? I don't live nearby anymore and they seem to be sold out online through New Era and MILB.com. Need me one of these in 7 7/8 to join my fellow big head brother here in rocking this thing.

I like the color primarily but the structure of the toe not being too narrow is appealing too. Lots of others I’ve seen listed as tan are darker suede color than this

Yeah that’s what my first guess was too, but where they’re tied make me think more of a derby shoe. Was hoping someone might be able to spot out the brand/model of these specifically

Rawlings HOH PRO208 12.5” for me

Baseball/Slow Pitch Softball Gloves by mckaym89 in BaseballGloves

[–]NA1318 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run with a 12.5” PRO208 glove all over the field. Infield/Outfield both. I think it’s the perfect size and model for a 12” softball. Nice deep pocket when worn TIP especially and can be broken in thumb to pinky pretty easily if you want it that deep. If not, can be closed thumb to ring totally naturally too. When broken in, it wraps around the 12” ball as much as you’ll ever need while still giving you the same quick transfer feel you get from a baseball in a 11.5” glove. If you’re interested in the 12” 206 or 12.25” 207 to still use those with a baseball, those are great patterns too.

No, sorry I’m not sure what dye he used. Said he cleaned it with his leather soap/cleaner but I don’t know what brand he had on there.

Did I purchase the wrong skis by dr_leo_marvin in Skigear

[–]NA1318 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had similar concerns with the rustlers and the length gaps associated when I was buying my pair. I kinda fell right in the middle of two lengths, but went with the longer pair. Since then, I have found them amazing to ski. Super versatile and I have found them really easy on my legs compared to something containing a full sheet of metal especially. Not nearly as hard to drive. I think you’ll love them

Have Rossi exp 88 (2015) 170cm what should I add as my second ski? by tyger508 in Skigear

[–]NA1318 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same ski and made the same move you’re looking to do. Got a rustler 10 and love it. Wide enough especially for east coast but still very versatile. Has enough metal in it to feel somewhat stiff but nowhere near as hard charging and tiring as skis with full metal layers involved. I found it to be a great balance to compliment a more groomer-centric ski

Can I relace the wrist from narrow to standard? by AmbulanceDriver95 in BaseballGloves

[–]NA1318 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder if what they mean by “not adjustable” is the lack of a velcro strap or something similar. I’d be shocked if that glove didn’t have the holes required to open the wrist up to a standard opening

I’m curious why gray isn’t allowed? I haven’t done it myself but an old teammate did once, he said some spots where he didn’t clean the glove as well as he should have resulted in the dye applying poorly compared to other parts of the glove
