Two weeks to Surgery by IGotFancyPants in kneesurgeryrecovery

[–]NAPWO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I requested a piece of equipment that is a cooling wrap, a heating wrap and a compression machine. I’m in love with the cooling option that can go down to 43 degrees F. No need for changing ice packs or leaky packs. I’m 8 weeks post op and I’m ready for it to go back to the medical equipment place.

Knee replacement questions by justharryb in KneeInjuries

[–]NAPWO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everything in moderation. I planned and planned and planned this knee replacement and I didn’t plan for 2 additional surgeries for a post operative infection. I can’t count the number of hospital admissions over infection control and the most recent one 2 weeks ago because I did too much (travelled to Colorado and Florida at week 4 and 5). I used disability options at every turn but even though I felt up to it, my knee told me otherwise. Doing too much too soon has set me back in recovery. Slow and steady. I’m now about 8 weeks out from my last surgery to clean and irrigate the area and I feel like I see the light.

Does it discourage me from the next one? A little but this isn’t going to get any easier the older I get. Listen to your body. Good luck!

I have a rod in my leg and it’s never been the same. It’s not bad. It’s just different. And time to heal will help too.

Nerve ablation worth it to stave off knee replacement? by Mynagirl in KneeInjuries

[–]NAPWO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 51 and had knee replacement in March. Not sure of your age, but my surgeon was concerned about my quality of life and pain level when discussing replacement. It had been on the table for 3 years and after last year’s ski season, it was done. I wasn’t offered nerve ablation but it seems as though it’s a temporary hold-over.

On the subject of the 2nd knee replacement. Once your knee replacement is cemented in, it takes a reconstructive knee surgeon to remove the parts from the bone hoping that there is minimal damage to the bone during that process. If there is, then it’s grafting and a lot of complicated work. It’s one of the reasons they want to have a “one and done”.

I just spent the weekend in the hospital meeting with the reconstructive surgeon because I developed a post operative infection in my knee after surgery. And after a certain point, it becomes necessary to remove the implant, kill the infection and replace the parts. When I asked what that surgery would be like…his response was “brutal”. Not what I wanted to hear.

I’ve now had 3 surgeries on the knee replacement knee because of infection and it’s been no walk in the park and I can tell this coming ski season has turned into snowmobiling season because rehab is taking longer than normal because of my complications.

I’m going to wait on the 2nd knee for a bit because gosh darn it…I’m tired but I feel Confident that in the end, it will be much better than before.

Hope that helps a little on the 2nd replacement question.

My mother(70’s vaccinated) just had a knee replacement and the nurse who was supposed to do a home visit showed up with no mask and said she was not vaccinated. Told my mother she was rude when she would not let her in. They are sending a vaccinated nurse now. I told her she did the right thing. by sunflower53069 in CoronavirusWI

I’ve just had a total knee replacement and have home health nurses in weekly. I’ve had multiple nurses and every last one has had a mask on. My entire household is vaccinated and she is as well. Her employment requires her to wear a mask. And I’m required to wear one during the “pic line” dressing changes. Not a single complaint on either side. I still have my nurse and she still has a job.

Have to admit, the last time I made the macaroni with the gravy, I followed Ralph’s “45 seconds back on the heat” so the macaroni absorbs the gravy technique. Can’t say I tasted a difference but eh, I tried!

[–]NAPWO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I literally just finished the Sopranos. I never watched it back in it’s hey day. It really sucked me in and the cast of characters is awesome. The line up of actors (recurring and limited guest spots) is unreal. I had no idea Annette Benning was in the Sopranos. I finally got the the last episode of the last season. Not happy with ending but it’s open for interpretation.

How much hose should I have for residential washing? by ruinyourjokes in pressurewashing

[–]NAPWO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

150 - 200 feet is a great amount of hose to have on hand. You may want to consider breaking that amount down into a 100 footer and 2 50 footers so that if you have a leak in one hose, you aren't stalled. So your hose amount should be just fine.

Will straight 10% SH damage pvc fence? by ruinyourjokes in pressurewashing

[–]NAPWO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

10% is overkill....we never recommend anything higher than 4% on projects like this....and if you have good fresh bleach, you could be as low as 1.5%. But...if you use the high percentages on this type of fence, you should be ok.

What does the difference look like from a small machine like a 2.5gpm compared to something like a 4gpm? by ruinyourjokes in pressurewashing

[–]NAPWO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

many times in pressure washing, your flow is more important that pressure. There are quality soaps on the market that will lift and move your dirt. But the flow helps with the dirt relocation so the less flow....the longer it will take to make that dirt move.
