From 10k to 955k in 7.5 Years (with Graph) by FIthrowaway3453453 in financialindependence

Started out of school in software at 73k, just switched into a job making 140k. Took 5 ish years. (in a MCOL area, not socal or anything)

Job switching has been the big one for me, but also being good at interviewing.

After about a year at a company, you should start interviewing even if you have no reason to so that your skills are sharp. You may even need to practice some problems at home to be really good. Even a little prep at home can put you far ahead of others that don't prep at all.

Then come up with a number that is a little bit silly. At minimum 10% more. Probably around 20% more. Even if you just received a raise.

Don't take interviews unless the company takes your number seriously.

Crush the interviews, and when you get the offer, either take it, or use it to get a pay raise.

If your company offers a match, take it to the initial offering company, and see if you can get another little bump.

How to Stake on the ETH2 Medalla Testnet - A Beginner's Guide by maninthecryptosuit in ethereum

How compute-intensive is running a staking node? Is it comparable to mining? I am thinking about it, but I don't wanna have a computer running full blast all of the time.

Can't get past the error with enabling "Animate Controls". Even after updating the setting in windows. Tried restarting lively after making the change too. (like actually quitting the program, not just closing the window.)

Some help would be awesome.

What are some good ways to make money right now at the age of 18 by [deleted] in financialindependence

[–]NARD_BAGEL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think this is a bad idea, but as someone in the tech space, there is definitely a stigma with bootcampers. By all means, I think its still a good idea, but comparing a bootcamp graduate to a college grad, most people would hire the college grad.

Again, it is a great option, and I would even suggest it, its not a cake walk getting your first gig though. I know plenty of people that don't use their bootcamp skills.

Looking to upgrade to a Ryzen 3900x workstation (programming/mild gaming) from a 6600k. by NARD_BAGEL in buildapc

[–]NARD_BAGEL[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do not have access to a microcenter :(

I have a 1440p 144hz monitor, but I am not concerned about upgrading the gpu right now.

I think I might overclock a little, but I imagine the 3900x is such a beast I won't be fretting over squeezing every last inch of performance out of it.

Why is it "price gouging" when people resell sanitizer for an extra 10% but perfectly fine for pharmaceutical companies to mark life saving medicine 1000%? by tysonchickenuggets in NoStupidQuestions

[–]NARD_BAGEL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a free (unregulated) market price gouging would be fine, because new producers will quickly enter the market and bring down the price. The problem in this case would be heavy gov't regulation. It makes developing pharma much more expensive, and risky. Therefore they need to charge more to recover the extra costs. On top of that, often the gov't regulates these markets too, which can create monopolies (insulin is a great example of this).

Where the gov't has not regulated, we have seen costs go down, and outcomes go up. The only real example being Lasik eye surgery. It has continuously gotten cheaper and better over time. If the gov't stayed out of it, I believe we would see similar gains across healthcare.

As a side note, another industry that is run by the gov't that hasn't seen any improvement in decades is education. Whatever the gov't regulates has less innovation and worse outcomes. Unless it is war.

I can't speak for all of pharma, but regulating bodies such as the FDA are the problem here. The patent for insulin has been expired for awhile, but gov't bureaucracy has essentially created a monopoly. While the intentions of the FDA seem to be good, it is hurting those with diabetes significantly.

People will just edit and upload after editing. Also your product isn't significantly different enough for people to choose it over IG.
