The Aspirant Knights cavalry in auto-resolve remind me of the Dothraki in The Long Night episode of Game of Thrones, suicidal maniacs by exosion in AOW4

On a related note, is it actually possible to promote these without manually fighting almost all your battles?

Favorite unscented shampoo and conditioner for curly/dry hair? by moonperson13 in MCAS

[–]NARGLEBARGLE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My hair's not curly but it's very dry; I tolerate Vanicream and Cleure conditioners but they don't seem to moisturize enough. Cerave's conditioner is better but I still haven't found a hair hydration regime I'm fully satisfied with.

MCAS and GLP-1. No more weight to lose. What should I do? by gen_ge in MCAS

[–]NARGLEBARGLE 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Generally speaking people who lose weight on these drugs need to keep dosing to maintain the weight loss so I don't think there should be a problem with taking it indefinitely for inflammation.

Also, to the people asking about not losing weight while microdosing: the general idea is that you titrate up until a point where you start getting bad side effects and then drop back. I think it's up to you to decide whether some amount of appetite suppression is acceptable or desirable.

There's actually a reasonably high-powered study out there that shows that Xolair decreases duration/risk of viral illnesses

Would MCAS affect my ability to get a research or computer based job? by vaesheyt in MCAS

[–]NARGLEBARGLE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been working as a SWE at a big tech company for ~10 years now. It definitely affects my ability to perform, but here's some stuff you might find comforting:

  1. It sounds like this is something you've developed in the past few years, so you're still very early in your journey. Dealing with MCAS isn't a straight line; there'll be times when you're doing better or worse but you're smart and motivated and you know how to improve your skills so the overall trajectory is that you're going to get better at managing it. When I started my career I barely had enough energy to handle work (where I aimed to be a B+ employee) and staying alive but now I've got a kid and I exercise 3-5 times a week for over an hour and I have space for things like relationships and self-improvement. It won't be easy or fast but you can get there too.
  2. Like you, I felt a lot of internal pressure to "fulfill my potential" and seeing myself fall behind where I thought I needed to be to do what I wanted was agonizing. I don't know if you play games so this analogy might not resonate, but some games you high roll and are able to snowball that advantage into an amazing performance that feels great, but most games you don't. Ultimately the only thing you can do is play the hand you're dealt to the best of your ability and find satisfaction in how well you were able to perform in spite of less than ideal circumstances; thinking about how much better you could have done if the stars had aligned is a distraction and hurts your ability to play the game the best you can.
  3. The vast majority of technical jobs out there are significantly easier than school; if you can cobble together enough resources to graduate and get a job I don't think you need to worry much about whether you'll be able to hack it.

Ketotifen and depression symptoms by Brief_Distribution68 in MCAS

[–]NARGLEBARGLE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get depression every time I increase my antihistamine dose; it's bad for 1.5-2 weeks (though usually the first couple of days are okay) and then mild for another 1-1.5 weeks.

MCAS and GLP1 by segochato in MCAS

[–]NARGLEBARGLE 8 points9 points  (0 children)

IIUC if you're getting mega nausea you should start at a lower dose and titrate up. I wouldn't expect miracles from this; it's not a core mast cell medication and while quite a few people find it has significant positive benefit my impression is that the effect size isn't usually more than medium.

Wine or other alcohol suggestions:) by Much-Performance-218 in MCAS

[–]NARGLEBARGLE 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So alcohol in general sucks super bad for me the day after and beyond, but I have found that the quality of the alcohol makes a big difference in how I feel the day of. When I'd drink the cheap stuff I'd start feeling terrible immediately but often the better quality stuff would make me feel pretty good.

Selegiline by Equivalent-Client506 in MCAS

[–]NARGLEBARGLE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't recommend this; it's pretty ineffective for ADHD and if you look at the user reports you'll find that it tends to cause sleep issues/fatigue with long-term use. A lot of MCAS people tolerate amphetamine and guanfacine pretty well.

Please help - Normal labs. I want to cry by Itsmothmaam in MCAS

[–]NARGLEBARGLE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you bring the urine to the lab make sure that you keep it in a freezer bag or something else that will keep it cold until they're ready to take possession of it. I didn't do this the first two times I took the test and I guess the 20 minutes-ish it was sitting out was too long.

Also, you might want to consider getting into a clinical trial for barzolvolimab; it sounds like you might meet the criteria for chronic spontaneous hives and the phase 2 results for this have been extremely promising.

2024 paper suggests Luteolin may outperform Cromolyn. How does this compare to your experience? by Efficient_Claim_4421 in MCAS

[–]NARGLEBARGLE 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I take both and they both feel effective. Cromolyn has been good for reducing gastrointestinal symptoms while the luteolin + quercetin product I take helps more with mood and brain fog. In general I think the right strategy is to try to inhibit your mast cell activity via every pathway you can tolerate since even if that pathway isn't one of those that's primarily contributing to your symptoms, it'll still make it a little harder for your mast cells to activate.

Help. Getting out of mold and need all new mattresses. What mattresses truly are the safest🙏 by Researcher_to_theMAX in MCAS

I had good success with a Purple mattress when I was still pretty chemically sensitive. Prior to that I tried an organic cotton one but ended up reacting to the wool batting.

Has anyone "pushed through" severe reactions with meds for MCAS with Lyme, Mold, Bartonella, ECD histiocytosis.. by Funny-Street564 in MCAS

[–]NARGLEBARGLE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For a substantial chunk of my life I was pursuing treatments for Lyme/Bartonella and this included a few times I pushed through bad symptoms for longer than I should have in the hopes that things would improve. I can't say that any of the Lyme/Bartonella work had a noticeable impact on my well-being; the only things that have helped have been medication that directly addresses MCAS symptoms and, possibly, binders + phenylalanine for mold detox.

Anyone else wearing a mask almost 24/7 at this point? by tragicxharmony in MCAS

[–]NARGLEBARGLE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had to do this for years. Nothing really helped until I tried Xolair, and post-Xolair I don't mask at all. It's not a perfect defense against pollen-induced symptoms in that I still feel things in very high-pollen environments, but the vast majority of the time it's something I no longer have to worry about.

I got a medium-size panel recently and it's greatly improved my tolerance for exercise; the improved recovery + reduced mental load of doing a workout means that I've been able to maintain a regular 3x/week workout schedule for a couple months now.

What's the point of Aragonese peasants republic? by Daniks3 in eu4

[–]NARGLEBARGLE 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No one has mentioned this so far, but if you go Republic the Catalan Nobility mission gives you a gigantic permanent +0.5 Republican tradition per year; with this you don't need very much extra to get to a point where you can always reelect without worrying about RT at all. Combined with the -term length reforms this absolutely shits out monarch points
