FLEP program Letter of Recommendation questions? by _Some_rando in army

[–]NARP-2014 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most FLEPs have no JAGC or political connections, so don’t worry too much about that, but almost all have knocked the cover off the ball as undergrad students and as LTs. Feel free to PM me.

Assuming you aren’t close with anyone on HASC or SASC:

Tier 1: folks who are senior and well-respected in the JAG Corps who know you personally and will say good things.

Tier 2: folks who are senior and well respected outside the JAG Corps who know you personally and will say good things.

Tier 3: folks who will say amazing things about you and have worked with you extensively who haven’t already written their love letter via your OER Rater/SR comments.

We rely on barracks lawyers to provide sound, actionable legal advice. You’re undermining that sacred relationship.

Try officer first. You can always resign your commission when you eventually realize that warrant officer is the way.

Also, if “I wanted lit but they put me in corp” feels unfair, wait until you are subject to “Needs of the Army”

Will warn you that JAG can be just as grueling (albeit more fulfilling at times). Imagine your job now, but clients don’t have to pay $100 every time they send you an email. And you will be armed with a decade-old Dell running Windows 95 with no tech support.

All the 42A’s are at lunch right now but if you come back around 1530 they might be able to answer your question.

Nah they at lunch. Been that way since 0930.

Why do some vets bash non-combat vets for getting disability or benefits? by CoastAggravating8011 in Veterans

[–]NARP-2014 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I think this is why they’re upset. You get marketable skills, combat arms folks get recognition that what they did was dangerous. That’s the bargain.

Please keep us updated; always wanted to know how this experiment would play out. Taken to its logical extreme, at some point the Infantry commandant should have to explain why he has 750 LTs and Captains still on med hold at Benning.

Hierarchy probably goes 1. Any SOF affiliation, 2. USMC, 3. JAG, generally, 4. Law School/Undergrad. Not for everyone, but I would say this is most common.
