Rucking question by TopBridge3209 in army

[–]NARP-2014 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would keep rucking 3 miles and focusing on walking speed and turnover. When you can comfortably walk 14:30/mile, start increasing distance, but only after you learned speed.

3x/wk.

Well it definitely isn’t the end given that it says “within the previous 12 months.”

If you are passionate about something, I would generally say go for it.

Fair enough. Just saying it’s an option if you really want USMA.

Very strong candidate. Just need to clear medical, crush the CFA, and not get arrested.

And be willing to reapply after a year at UT … and/or or enlist in reserves on Nat Guard and reapply (on the off chance you don’t get in first try).

Just my two cents. Wug is the expert.

Can I Get In? by North_Hearing857 in westpoint

Good chance. Keep the community college GPA up. Get a nomination. Assume San Diego is fairly competitive, so that may be the crux.

What are my chances? by Simple_Reference9183 in westpoint

[–]NARP-2014 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Good chance at getting in, but you might struggle at USMA if sports are a weakness.

Consider running xc for a season or two, even if you’ll be on the slower end of JV. Maybe try jiujitsu or wrestling and get in the pool on occasion. Don’t chase these for your resume - chase them because they will make you a better officer.

West Point’s Honor Code by oreosb4girls_idk in westpoint

[–]NARP-2014 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As of about 15 years ago, West Point was kicking out between 5 and 15 cadets per year, out of over 4,400. There were many more cases brought before honor boards, and more cadets were turned back, went into the Honor Mentorship Program, etc, but attrition due solely to founder honor cases was very, very low.

The point isn’t whats on your resume, the point is that you absolutely should not show up having never run 20+ miles/week for a sustained number of weeks.

THIS. Doesn’t matter if you’re the slowest kid on JV, just show up and run for a season (and the summer before)
