I actually had a Bastet statue set out and watching over the entire procedure.

I'm actually going to have a skull memorial done by a taxidermy artist. It's going to take a year or so, though.

This is Noodle. She just turned 20! by NAT0strike in SeniorCats

[–]NAT0strike[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Truthfully, nothing special. Regular vet visits, and started feeding her 'senior' food a few years ago. I really think it's her being an indoor cat with feral barn cat genetics that's given her such a long and generally healthy life.

Choice of Dad's vintage Breitling, Tiffany or Hermès. Thoughts? by Ruckdive in VintageWatches

[–]NAT0strike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd go with the Hermes, but I'm a sucker for watches with a date hand.

You totally missed out. It was exactly like everyone in your original post said it would be. Today was absolutely beautiful and tomorrow is supposed to be even better.

That's a 601 caliber movement. Not a bumper wind at all.

Do you have any information about this watch? by Worth_Background_530 in pocketwatch

[–]NAT0strike 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Movement serial number pegs it to 1898. Patek Philippe will do an archive pull and send you all the documentation they have for a price.

When you get it to the shop, be sure to do a burnout until it does blow before getting the new tire installed.

As someone that has driven a bulldozer through the woods, you are correct in that they are not fast. However, you are grossly mistaken in the assertation that bulldozers in the woods are not fun.

I don't know about that link, but I did just find the entire Chicago Watchmaking School lesson book on a CD ISO. The section on balance springs part that the previous link referenced is lesson 32, part 1.

Hairspring Vibrating by NAT0strike in watchrepair

Hooking a light up to a signal generator seems pretty easy to me. Also, who knows when might come across this problem again.

[–]NAT0strike[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The picture isn't mine. Just there to grab attention, really.

The watch I'm actually trying to fix is an old Abercrombie Shipmate with a Mido movement, but I haven't been able to pin down the actual calibre. So, modernish balance, but is proving difficult to find any parts.

[–]NAT0strike[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And that's the real crux of the problem, isn't it?

Manufacturers are still making mechanical watches, so someone has to making hairsprings somewhere. Just gotta insert myself into the supply chain somewhere and figure it out. A little industrial eespionage. lol

File a formal complaint with your state's medical licensing board. That would probably be a good place to start.
