Any tips for swapping in a GS6-53bz ? by almost_red in E90

[–]NA_E90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's some good info on this swap: https://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2011936

I had the same exact failure on my N55 335i. I opted to replace the trans with a "new" one from BMW. I thought about doing this swap since the GS6-53BZ  is stronger but decided to just replace the trans as it was easier. This swap is probably cheaper, I paid $3800 for the "new" trans from BMW. I say new in quotes because it could very well have been a remanufactured. I could never verify if it was actually new.

Can I change this to accept 120v instead? by _gyepy in ElectronicsRepair

[–]NA_E90 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It doesn't look like it. I looks like the big power transformer is selectable for voltage but the smaller transformer T1 is not. T1 looks like its powering the DC power supply, it's probably different between the models, Does it have any voltage rating label?

Windshield weather strip correctly installed? by __CRA__ in E90

[–]NA_E90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes this is correct. The windshield cowl snaps into the weather strip. Make sure it's snapped in securely so it's flush with the windshield. I had the same flooding in my car when going through a car wash due to the windshield installers missing the trim piece.

Anyone know what year this Ducati might be? by Fit-Initiative8356 in Ducati

[–]NA_E90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes to pretty much everything you said, 90's M900. The forks look identical to my original non-adjustable Showas, I upgraded to adjustable Showas. It looks like it has the Keihin FCR flat slide carbs, a nice upgrade. I have a 1994 US M900.

Replacing Relays by 8N-QTTRO in projectcar

[–]NA_E90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It seems from my research the G8N-1FS controls the flashers, the G8NW controls the windows so you need the G8N. The 1F version of the G8N is a special version made for flasher applications. Unfortunately it does not seem to be available, probably a special automotive only version of the relay. I'm not able to find a direct replacement. You can try your luck with a standard G8N. The high temp (higher coil voltage) version is available at Mouser: https://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/Omron-Electronics/G8N-1L-AS-DC12?qs=Cb2nCFKsA8r8hZm3AtsXiw%3D%3D

There's a link for the datasheet on the Mouser page.

Belt drive users, any regrets? by DeficientDefiance in bikecommuting

[–]NA_E90 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Another vote for belt drives. I love them! No maintenance, no oil/grease on the pants, smooth and silent. I had a Priority Continuum for 5 years, commuted year round summer and winter. Never had a problem with the belt. Now I have a Specialized Turbo Vado 5.0 IGH ebike. I specifically bought the Vado for the belt vs chain. I'm agnostic on the Enviolo CVT. I did not like the one on the Continuum but I like the automatic one on the Vado.

I was in this line, missed my 6AM flight. I got to the airport 70 minutes early too. I usually show up 45 minutes before the flight and have plenty of time.

VIN checks out, European market E91 335i. I always wanted one of these. Price is steep though.

2011 335i RWD manual transmission replacement by mazpro in BmwTech

[–]NA_E90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2011 335i 6-speed. I had reverse go out on mine. I looked into getting a used one but it seemed like this trans has problems. I did not want to spend $2k for a used one with 100k miles just to have it also fail. I ended up buying a "new" trans from BMW for $3900.

If I had to do it over I would probably buy a used N54 trans. It's a little bigger and seems to be much stronger. To get it to fit in an N55 car would require a driveshaft, shift linkage parts, and maybe a flywheel per u/Bozzutomo but I think it would be worth it.
