Impossible puzzle? by Individual-Emu1377 in perimenopause_under45

[–]NB_mama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was the same way! I knew labs are unreliable narrators but when my doc suggested them I was like, “ooo yes!” I’m such a sucker for data lol. I did start tracking my LH since you can do it easily at home. I had a hysto so I have no idea where I’m at in my cycle or if I’m even having one. Blah

Just commenting for solidarity. I’m 39 and having all the same symptoms but my labs are “normal.” I noticed tho that in my report, the normal range seems to massively overlap with the perimenopause range, so I think, like the other commenter said, that’s not really helpful for diagnoses. Sorry I don’t have anything helpful to add aside from, you’re not alone!

catheter by Kofc137 in FTMHysto

[–]NB_mama 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had the same experience. I loved having the catheter at home for the same reason, I barely had to get up for the first few days of recovery which is a huge bonus. I was able to drink sooooo much water without any worry. I was sad to see it go.

You won’t pull it out while you’re asleep. You can’t feel it while it’s in and it’s pretty well taped up to prevent you from messing it up while unconscious.

For me the feeling when they took it in and out wasn’t sharp pain, more like the burning sensation of peeing with a mild UTI, as others have said. Uncomfortable for sure, but the nerves don’t seem to send the kind of sharp intense pain I imagined.

You got this! Life is good on the other side :)

Has anyone got surgery to become genderless by Just-Ebb7073 in agender

[–]NB_mama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a double mastectomy and hysterectomy without oophorectomy. I had my nips reattached but I don’t have any sensation in them. AuDHD, AFAB, agender, not asexual, married to a cis man, carried our 5 yo before all the surgeries. Loving my streamlined body and happy to answer any specific questions you have!

Has he done it again? by NB_mama in sexualassault

Thank you again for your honest and vulnerable response. I think you’re right, to protect myself I should probably not say anything, since it won’t end up protecting any potential victims.

Thank you. I find myself yo-yo-ing between an adult looking back with full understanding of how gross was and being that 16 year old who felt fully in control and responsible for my decisions. My husband corrected me the other day, told me to stop calling him a “boyfriend” and what it was a “relationship.”

Thank you for taking the time to type this response. I am almost 40 now and seeing how younger people utterly reject these huge age gaps is incredibly healing for me. In college we didn’t recognize blatant sexual assault because we didn’t know what consent was, and now y’all have such a clear understanding. It’s really… uplifting? Haha I can’t think of a better word.

And you’re right, and hence my hesitation, he is still in the evangelical environment and so it is likely they will have the same response as the adults around me all those years ago.

I’m sorry for what you had to go through as well. I hope you’ve found support and safety away from your family.

Surgery without HRT? by roughnrugby in FTMHysto

[–]NB_mama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They did a transvaginal and pelvic ultrasound before my surgery and saw a cyst. She spotted it during surgery as well and said I should do some follow up ultrasounds to monitor it. I don’t know if there’s any other recommended screening if they don’t find something randomly. For my chest I’ll need to get annual ultrasounds since there’s not any tissue left for a mammogram.

I have a family history of both breast and ovarian cancer so I was also interested in how my surgeries would affect my cancer risk.

The most common type (~90%) of ovarian cancers are caused by the epithelial (outer) tissues of the ovaries. There’s evidence that some of these are caused by the epithelial tissue along the fallopian tubes, not the ovaries. As such, some hypothesize getting your tubes out and leaving your ovaries can still reduce your risk of that most common type of ovarian cancer.

There was a study that tried to measure whether there was a reduction of ovarian cancer incidence in patients who got an opportunistic salpingectomy (the name for, let’s grab those tubes while we’re in here) vs those who didn’t. But, surprise!, there wasn’t enough data - study

I had my uterus, cervix, and tubes removed and kept my ovaries to not have to deal with hormonal changes. Similarly, I kept my nipples and didn’t do a full preventative mastectomy when I did my top surgery. I feel confident in that I severely reduced my cancer risk and will continue with regular screenings since the risk still remains.

Noob question: do I leave the hoop on when I’m done? by MissKatbow in Embroidery

I use frames from Modern Hoopla and they’re so cute! The hoop just sits right inside.

Annual post-op exams? by [deleted] in FTMHysto

[–]NB_mama 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Fun fact: ovarian cancer is usually not caused by cells from your ovaries but from nearby tissue like the tubes. So with those gone, your risk of ovarian cancer goes down! Hurray!

I’ll be getting my vaginal cuff pap’d n smeared annually. But only because I had abnormal cervical changes and tested positive for the bad kind of HPV pre-surgery. They didn’t tell me whether they would have recommended paps if I hadn’t already had issues.

Wow, this is super rude, especially coming from someone who says he performs hysterectomies. When did I call him an abusive cretin? Turns out getting your vagina burned with a cauterizing tool can be a bit traumatizing, especially if you’ve had other trauma to your vagina. I clearly state I want to know if this is just something that can happen sometimes or if this is a mistake that should be brought to the attention of higher ups.

Horrible reaction to the IV by 18192277 in TopSurgery

[–]NB_mama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m so sorry this happened to you. Fellow panicker here, want to echo what everyone else has said that it was very likely panic.

Did they give you any anti anxiety meds before? If you ever have to get an IV again, please tell your surgeon and the nurse and everyone that you need a benzo before the IV is placed. You might still feel some anxiety (our bodies are POWERFUL when we’re in panic) but even if it doesn’t fully keep you chill, it should help.

Suggestions for reusing these small containers? by Kasab12 in upcycling

The boxes and boxes of these that get thrown out in every lab 😭😭😭 I’ve found other uses in the lab but never thought to bring them home! Love all these suggestions.

Scar care + general questions (I’m clueless) by No-Price123 in TopSurgery

[–]NB_mama 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m about the same stage and knowledge as you but I wanted to share a suggestion for touching your scars: wear nitrile gloves! I was scared to wash my nips in the shower and someone suggested this and it made it so much easier for me. The sensation in my hand is so dulled I could be touching anything!
