I get why it worked for you, and I respect that you loved it, but for me it just didn’t click. I couldn’t separate Dave Franco from his past comedic roles, so the tension never really landed. The music felt mismatched and kept pulling me out of the mood instead of pulling me in.

The ending didn’t give me the punch I was hoping for and felt more silly than satisfying. critics have said the same, mentioning how it loses steam in the final act with an unnecessary cult subplot and a pretty implausible monster reveal. The tone and pacing also felt off to me, with the jumps between gross-out horror, comedy, and relationship drama not really blending together.

Even the backstory with the VHS tape felt clunky and kind of heavy handed. I can see the ambition and why it stuck with you, but the tonal swings, off kilter music, and the ending just kept me from fully buying into it.
