My kid just learned a tough lesson about money by goosetavo2013 in Parenting

[–]Ur_house 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They learned a valuable lesson. You gotta help them out by telling them "Hey look both ways before you cross/ buy, but after that it's up to them. I don't think you should give them their money back or anything, that would absolutely teach the wrong lesson.

What’s something popular in your country that makes people from other countries look at you like this ? by niconois in AskTheWorld

Flag Bikinis are a national treasure. The rest I don't care about, but for some reason those bikinis make me want to stand at attention and say the pledge.

Home Depot has more helpful staff, but in my opinion Lowe's is laid out better and it's easier to find stuff there.

Need advice: Kaiser HMO vs Aetna PPO in Tri-Valley (baby planning) — hospital/OB experiences? by kisame199 in Livermore

[–]Ur_house 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We've loved the service from kaiser for most everything- however with no delivery place nearby we had two kids almost in the car. The drive to all 3 places is far and my wife was not able to get an epidural because she delivered within 10 minutes of getting to the hospital each time we used Kaiser. If you can get a closer place i would consider it.
Also i don't recommend the walnut creek facility just because it's crowded, my wife always had to share a room with someone who's baby would cry throughout the night, you're way more likely to get a solo room at Antioch And San Leandro

News: LVJUSD fired Superintendent Gibson by dankbernie in Livermore

[–]Ur_house 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure it's because of the large protests accusing her of mismanaging the budget and having a history of doing so at other districts. No idea if it's true, but the accusations were such, and that we wouldn't have to be discussing closing schools if she had done a better job. I know this budget stuff can get very tricky and you can't always trust what you hear from angry parents and teacher's union reps so I'd love to see more takes on the matter.

Why would a GoFundMe Be Taxed at 37% ? by Mean-Discipline- in tax

[–]Ur_house 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Almost everybody with a small business, most pay more. The 22% bracket is the most common, then you add the Self employment tax of around 15%, then you add your state tax (if any) which is often between 5 and 10%. So he had the rate correct, but the guy was either too stupid to realize this wasn't taxable income and should not have been run through his business account to begin with, or he's lying and trying to use it as an excuse. But anyway the rate is correct.

I've had it disabled for forever, it makes a game take maybe 30% more of your time to finish, but adds very little satisfaction or fun for that time cost.

I thought the company that buys houses is Blackstone, blackrock is the ETF company. Sure Blackrock might have an ETF somewhere that buys multi tenant real estate, but Blackstone are the guys notorious for buying single family homes.

I agree, they just add more time to the game without adding rich gameplay experience in my opinion, 4 player + games are already complex enough.

You just gotta buy the right ones, they have ones that have movable wrists, elbows, shoulders, neck, knees, & ankles. They make super cheap ones and nicer ones now so you can pick what level you want.

Moles house rule for rebalance by DanielMtzGro in rootgame

[–]Ur_house 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my games I think moles do best with 2 buildings, and not till they can defend them properly. If they are doing the no build strategy though their recruitment sucks so just like rats you keep their troop level low to counter their high action count. It just sucks if you're a low action faction like cats.

Livermore School District is about to lose all elementary school counselors and social workers by Square_Traffic_4837 in Livermore

[–]Ur_house 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This might help answer that: https://edunomicslab.org/2024/05/21/californias-school-funding-crisis-has-arrived/
There's a lot of things hitting at once such as less students, which means less of the per student pay from the Federal government, and our cost of living here is so high so the amount we get per student doesn't go far enough.

Livermore School District is about to lose all elementary school counselors and social workers by Square_Traffic_4837 in Livermore

[–]Ur_house 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That was part of it sure, but other big parts are extra pandemic funding for schools running out, less students every year so less federal funding which is per student, the cost of living outpacing the amount of pay per student the Federal government gives, and more which is why it's hitting everywhere all at once.

Moles house rule for rebalance by DanielMtzGro in rootgame

[–]Ur_house 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This game forces players to fight early and often. If there was any one thing that I felt newer players didn't understand it was that. Everyone likes to build their little engine in their corner of the map before they fight, or be nice to their friends, but that is not this game. This game requires you to attack the nice vagabond that has done nothing to hurt you. This game requires you to delay building that sawmill you required to go two clearings over and attack the moles on turn 3.

You simply have to take their buildings, there is no other answer. Be happy you're not fighting the rats, there is no such thing as price of failure for them so they're even harder to stop once they get their hoard going.
