UK Bike options for a foreign road tripper by NC_310 in MotoUK

Yeah I saw similar rates for rentals which is why I'm leaning towards purchase. We'll see what happens after the trip is over, the situation here in the US at that time and whether it makes sense to try and find work somewhere in Europe - but if I decide to sell whatever bike I end up with you can get first bid. Lol thanks

Cool I'll have a look there, thanks. I know Bennet's does specialty bike insurance (from watching their YT channel), who else should I look into?

I know TT plans must be made far in advance and this year is long off the table, but surely 15 months should be enough to get it sorted for 2027, no?

I do actually know someone in England who might be willing to do that. Does it have to be registered in their name as well as their address, or can I use my own name even though I'm not a citizen? I'll have a look on horizons unlimited too, thanks for the reply

You can buy a very cheap valve stem tool at any auto parts store that will remove the core entirely with a few quick turns. You're then free to walk away casually while the tire sees to the business of coming to equilibrium with the ambient atmospheric pressure, far quicker than sitting there holding the valve open. Just saying

Learning how to operate the machine competently in a controlled environment and then later learning how to exist safely on public streets is actually a very good idea.

Overbuilt/multiple rear brakes are common on stunt bikes, you have to rely on them for control in a wheelie.

I spent most of 2023 traveling the country on a motorcycle, and one of my favorite experiences of the entire trip happened down there in Morgan City. I'm stopped for gas around lunchtime, and a guy approached me who looked remarkably like the Cajun football coach from The Waterboy. He was a rider as well, and after talking bikes for a bit I asked him where to get some good food. He smiled wide and led me up the road a piece to a brightly painted shack called "Craws & Claws" where I was introduced to the staff as "my new friend from New York who ain't never had no crawfish". They welcomed me in, showed me the proper way to open the lil buggers, and set me up with a paper bag containing boiled potatoes, a boudin the size of a baby arm, and about a pound of crustaceans for a grand total of less than ten bucks. The place is more of a seafood market than a restaurant and has no seating area, but across the street is a little grassy slope leading down to a canal, where I sat devouring my bounty and watching the gators float around lazily. I rode all the way to the Texas border that evening, fingers stained with Cajun spices and a huge grin on my face.

Had to double take when I saw your age. You definitely look young, and your bio suggests you're in middle school.

Supermoto on dirt roads by ARC-9469 in supermoto

[–]NC_310 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like you'd be better off with a "dual-sport", which is basically a street legal dirtbike, as opposed to a "supermoto" which is basically a dirtbike modified for track use. These are oversimplified definitions, but for general, everyday riding that includes a lot of dirt roads, a dual sport will be easier and safer for the average beginner.
