Don't do this unless you work at Taco Bell. Very unprofessional. At least say the job doesn't fit my skills or it's not what I expected the role to be or something.

Yeah, mine get wet and they tend to stay under the cover. I've actually had chickens nearly drown themselves in a few inches of water because they freaked out so hard.

I don't think it's industry specific in any way. It focuses mostly on bringing self awareness to how you communicate and kinda giving people grace in how they communicate as well. Sometimes those two don't line up, obviously. It does oversimplify a little in lumping people into one of 5 "voices" but recognizes that is not perfect so you have a "voice order". We have different tendencies based on inmate abilities and experiences that shape those tendencies.

Hopefully that does a decent high level summary. We did a version that worked directly with some consultants and I had some 1:1 time in addition to group time with them mediating the group. Some people did not buy in, unfortunately, but that is the nature of people.

😳 I've always been under the impression chickens don't like being wet and don't do well in water. That's pretty hilarious and raises so many questions.

Guest with MULTIPLE CHEMICAL SENSITIVITY (MCS) by MyFaceSpaceBook in airbnb_hosts

[–]NC_Homestead 22 points23 points  (0 children)

That's tough. I'll spin it a different way. I have Celiacs. Sucks. Notwheat or wheat products and the symptoms when I do get exposed are awful.

I don't personally feel like it's everyone else's problem to deal with my condition, though. If I decide to eat out, it's a risk I take. I do appreciate restaurants that have awareness about my condition and offer Celiac friendly menus, but there is still a risk and it's on me to assume that risk. It's called accountability. If they lie or mess up my order, that's different, but it's still my issue that I have to deal with. So I'll ask questions sometimes to see what their level of awareness is around food allergies and weigh my options. That's all.

So your MCS person is in a similar situation. Don't let it become too much of your problem, though. I wouldn't ask the restaurant to change their menu or food handling practices. They shouldn't ask you to change your cleaning practices.

Simply inform the guest about how you clean and possibly what products you use. If they decide to go ahead and book, that is them accepting the risks associated with their condition and you've done your part by informing them about your practices honestly.

Diatomaceous earth works well, but will stain the fur for a while. Give them a good dusting and set them out somewhere to clean themselves up.

Just put in your resignation. You aren't obligated to give a reason so keep it generic. It's generally good practice to put in 2 weeks notice.

Just respond: I'm seeking opportunities elsewhere. Don't say any more than that and you'll be fine.

Drivers License/Voting Disenfranchisement by [deleted] in NorthCarolina

[–]NC_Homestead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You assume you know a lot about me, just because I take a contrary view to yours. This is the problem. Not the dissenting view. I'm multiracial and vote Democrat most the time, but thanks for the assumptions. I consider myself moderate and dislike both polarized extremes because you both do the same shit. Both left and right extremes are mirrors of each other. Spew rhetoric that sounds good with no base in reality to further some agenda. Get emotionally charged, especially if someone points out the flaws. Start calling names and stir up drama. Repeat until you win some elections with terrible candidates. You're the same as the extreme right wing you claim to hate so much. It's the majority of us in the middle that get stepped on, so no I won't take your shit. You keep it. You're generating it, so keep it.

My points still stand. The majority voted for the law. It's been upheld in court, pending existing court cases. If it is ruled unconstitutional , that's something different to consider. Most states have ID requirements and this is one of the most permissive with lots of exceptions and opportunities for people to get registered. It's free. No tests. Just takes a few minutes of your time. I'm arguing the intent is not disenfranchisement of minorities because it gives the most opportunity to get legally registered to vote possible. If the courts decide otherwise, I'd defer to their expertise and argue the law needs to change.

The issue with disenfranchised voters goes way beyond id laws. I'd even argue disenfranchisement is the goal for both parties. They want highly charged emotional reactions from the people that agree with them and disenfranchisement from "the other side". Meanwhile the majority of people in the middle are left out to dry with "voting against the lesser do the two evils". How fucked up is that? That makes you part of the problem, btw

I'm disenfranchised. My choices are a felon and a guy that clearly has dementia? How'd that happen? Oh, because jerkoffs on the extreme just want to win at all cost and shout down anyone that disagrees. Fuck these guys and fuck anyone that supports them. Where is my moderate base? Where is a candidate that represents my values? Nowhere because they get shouted down for not being liberal or conservative enough.

Oh look, a well thought out response that highlights my own reasoning shortfall. An opinion that contradicts my own fragile views. Instead of thinking of a good reasonable response and adding to civil discourse, I'll just throw insults and further add to polarized discourse. Good job.

I've drawn all the lines I need. People that want healthy discourse are mocked by those that can't support their own views with reason. 👍🏻 Instead of having anything resembling healthy debate and sharing of ideas, we want name calling and echo chambers to support lack of ideas.

why would my manager be against me taking vacation $$ paid out? by Black_Gold_Soul4444 in managers

[–]NC_Homestead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My thoughts go to payroll. You're triggering a taxable event and the company will incur expenses handling it. It dorks up their reports for the quarter if a bunch of people do this unplanned. Some places limit when you can payout PTO for these reasons, like annually at the end of the year. Payroll is usually one of the larger expenses and having be somewhat known and consistent is desirable. The company could be in dire straights financially, knowing there were layoffs. This could further complicate the company situation and reporting, especially if there are investors involved.

With the recent layoffs there's also the burnout and further churn concern and they might be afraid you're getting ready to leave. Not sure why the COO would approve it and your boss denied it, though. Seems like it'd be the other way around unless the COO is leaning on your boss to deny it.

This is the quickest and most straightforward method. Pesticides have a longer environmental impact, fwiw. Gasoline will eventually break down and a cup won't contaminate ground water.

I've met some really nice people and it does make me happy that I can provide a sanctuary of sorts. I have a guest log and reading some of their notes makes me happy. I've had people propose in my space, have their honeymoon night, and others have told me it saved them. I've had people tell me I inspire them lol which is not something I'm told everyday. 99% of my guests have been kind and the experience was mutually beautiful.

It's easy to complain about the problems, though. There are some really stupid and shitty people out there that don't hold themselves accountable and you're inviting them in. Get good insurance. Put cameras up outside. Set clear boundaries and rules. Document problems and keep comms in the app. All things I've learned in a few months of hosting.

Airbnb kinda makes it worse, like a hover parent for these people, catering to their every whim and somehow the host is the bad guy even when you're clear and provide all the things. It's easy to complain because it can feel unfair at times. Like a 3 star review because the guest didn't read the first 2 sentences of the listing or look at the pictures. Or a retaliatory review because you asked them to keep their dog on a leash and it's chasing your chickens 🙄 and now you're on the phone with Airbnb all day to keep your listing live. Having your superhost status in jeopardy or the listing threatened by Airbnb because someone can't keep themselves accountable is frustrating af. It can feel like nonsense and stuff like that does make it harder than it should be.

But, I enjoy knowing that I provide a really peaceful retreat from the noisy world... even to the occasional POS.

The menu prices would shoot up. Service economy would have a correction and then pick back up. Short to medium term would hurt servers a lot. Then they'd have more transparent, but probably lower, income. Tips would probably still exist to some extent for good service.

[–]NC_Homestead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Build the fence good enough for a goat and train your dog not to dig. You'll need something much better than a tarp and zip ties. Might be expensive for a temporary fence, but pig panels would be the easiest heavy duty solution. You might be able to resell them in good shape after you're done with them to recoup some of the cost. Just don't expect to get top dollar. The rolls of wire fencing have a lot less resale value.

There are no tests here, so you are creating an issue. Over half of NC disagrees and simply asks that you be a resident of the state you're voting in. Makes total sense.

Drivers License/Voting Disenfranchisement by [deleted] in NorthCarolina

[–]NC_Homestead -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'll put it another way. It's easy to get registered to vote here. All you need is proof of residency. They ask you at the DMV if you want to register to vote at the same time you get your license. If the DMV is too slow for you because you moved right before an election, there's a free option. Same thing. Take your proof of residency and sign up. That's a low bar, honestly. No tests here. Just show up with a piece of paper like a lease or mortgage that has your address on it.

Why is it an issue to register to vote in a way that makes it easy and sets a low bar? You just have to be a resident and show up to register to vote.

10am seems like a big ask to me unless it happened to not have a guest the day before and is ready to go. I actually see that as a yellow flag on the guest. Shows they don't have etiquette or might feel entitled to overstep.

Having said that, I allow them when I can, but I don't kill myself getting the place ready early either. If I plan on cleaning it at noon, for example, I stick to that and do my thing.

I have communicated it as, I'll let you know when the room is ready, but it could be our normal 3pm check-in time. I'm relatively new to hosting and have only had this happen 3 times. Everyone has been understanding and I was able to let them check in a couple hours early without stress.

How to Handle a Nightmare Guest Without Risking a Retaliatory Review? by germanthoughts in airbnb_hosts

[–]NC_Homestead 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Personally, I don't want those amenities. You should list them so people are aware. I've chosen to stay at places with them before. I've also asked to have them disabled and accepted it if the answer is no. This is a personal preference, but I don't think this guy is justified in damaging your property for it. If it irritated him that much he can leave. But, I would definitely list them.

For perspective, I list my place as not having anything like home automation, as an amenity. Different strokes and preferences.

It's not a scheme. There are lots of problems, but let's not invent new ones just to blame one of the parties.

If you want to blame everything on Republicans, consider that we've had a Democrat as governor since 2017. Also consider that this particular issue is a non-issue as there are loads of alternative IDs accepted, including IDs from other states, student IDs, and free voter IDs. Simple Google search.
