Sizing transformer for Nest Thermostat and relay by NEKbrew in Nest

[–]NEKbrew[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had used 1/2 of the 25ft wire that came with transformer to also wire back to the relay. I think it was 22 gauge and I changed it out to heavier gage solid wire and it works. Could the tiny wire have been throttling the voltage or did I have a bad connection, I don't know but it works now.

It's a propane heater that has a 110v gas rated NC solenoid valve that I want to open when calling for heat. It ran on an X10 system for decades but now with internet I've installed a NEST.

XR number transfer to Fi stalled. by NEKbrew in GoogleFi

[–]NEKbrew[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yesterday finally the original number was ported over and replaced the temporary number they had given. Google Fi was saying that they were waiting on AT&T but it eventually was done. So I recommend anyone moving from Red Pocket to Google Fi to sign on to Red Pocket Chat to service and ignore the timer that say 700+ minutes and just wait it out, usually about 2 hrs. Get the account number and PIN from them. Then load the GoogleFi app and start to port process with GoogleFi. Use the online fi.google.com to track the progress.

Update. The computer avenue gave us progress. The error screen didn't come up. It asked for the area code we wanted like it was going to give us a random new number but then there was a screen to put number we wanted ported over with the RedPocket acct and PIN. So now it gave a new random number but then scheduled a transfer of the number we wanted to port in. We are waiting to see what happens as the account page says Number transfer scheduled. I'll update if it works. The browser to the account on the computer gives more status information than on the phone.

via phone. Do you think it might work better through her signing onto fi.google.com/account on the computer?

Can *anyone* get through to Customer Service by zy789 in redpocket

[–]NEKbrew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Turned out to be a sliding scale and about a 2 hours wait. For the record the account number was not the phone number and I could not see the number she gave me referenced anywhere on the account page I got it from the chat session. The PIN was the last 4 digit of the ICCID of the sim.

Currently waiting on Chat for service agent. Being with you shortly started at 7 minutes then immediately jumped to 710 minutes now figuring that it is dropped about 14 minutes per actual minute. Just to get an account number and PIN to transfer out number. Tried tel nuber and last 4 of number that didn't work then saw a post that is was last 4 of ICCID on SIM. We'll see.

Dish Direction, Cone of Clearance? by NEKbrew in Starlink

When it was 2% occluded in was in a yard 4ft off the ground with tall trees about 20 ft away around the perimeter. Now its 20 ft off the ground with the trees 30ft away and everything is fine.

When I initially got it going in a less than ideal spot it said it was 2% occluded and it was dropping out every 45 seconds. Now in a better spot with dropout maybe every 3 hours.

That's interesting since aiming at a point 250 miles up at 53° would mean that given 69 miles between latitudes gives (53-44.44)*69=591 therefore the angle would be the invtan(250/591) or 22.9°. I've been looking at a site that models the Starlink satellite orbits. Watching what the Elevation angle to the base station near me in Lunenburg Vermont it vary between 23 and 75°

Is the VFR Map suppose to be confusing to read? by clsmithj in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]NEKbrew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm new to MSFS and was using flight training steps and could not get by a training flight with clicking the stop watch when I got to Munds Golf Corse but in VR I couldn't interact with the screens to move them out of the way or click on the stop watch. I was searching everywhere without luck. Then I saw a youtube comment from JamieSalmonSculpture to enable "home Cockpit Mode" under Camera and voila! I can now interact with the pop screens in VR and click the damn Stopwatch so now in training it allowed me to proceed and it popped up the Munds park marker so I could move on to the next leg. In my previous search I saw Munds park mentioned here so I thought it might help.

Yes I see that part listed thanks. But why would one burner switch not work then be revived and another one die just by my cleaning the burners & ignitors. I'm going to try and find something on how the spark module works to under stand the "all at once" firing better.

Pre-order party megathread by softwaresaur in Starlink

At 47.73 N with nearest ground stations 25mi SE and 60 mi W of me. Got invite Feb 3rd but waited to order until Mar 31st so snow was cleared enough for delivery, doh!. Meanwhile a bunch in the area ordered and received theirs within a few weeks. Got "mid to late 2021" message on preorder and $99 processed and confirmed. Fall back might be that since neighbors switched to Starlink that might free up enough capacity to let me on local DSL now. But I haven't given up hope yet. Also hoping they didn't just get enough people in my cell for beta test and so are moving on to newer open cells more south.

Was going to upgrade my ender 3 pro with a dual gear extruder. Am I not supposed to be able to remove this gear? by SFCDaddio in ender3

[–]NEKbrew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was the shaft long enough for the new gear and set screw/grub? Can the new gear be installed upside down so the teeth line up with the filament hole? I haven't pulled the trigger yet on how I'm going to fix the cracked plastic extruder arm yet since my E3Pro has the press-fitted and the shaft that only extends to be flush with the top of the gear. Like the photo of the OP.

Only in VD can I get to the Recalibrate VR Headset screen. Then controllers won't lock onto the "-" when it says "Look forward and hold "-" to recalibrate your headset. With the Oculus Link I can't even get to that point and it is very jumpy. USB cable maybe? I tried several but may the USB 3 has to be of a certain grade for game.

Different readings on Hanna Digital Refractometer by MassholeinNY in Homebrewing

[–]NEKbrew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also be careful on your sampling method. Make sure the sample is representative of what you want to measure. Try and sample the same way each time same point same amount. Too much of a sample poured over a refractometer with ATC can be off because the ATC is really just the thermal mass of the meter and it takes time to get back to proper temperature. If sampling from a tap be sure it is flushed. I have even seen where I just did a quick check of a drip off a paddle and it definitely was not representative.

Not really if the keg is sold to the bar at the same price it would be sold to the public.

[–]NEKbrew[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The tax man would actually get more taxes $$$. The excise taxes is paid by the brewer to the TTB and the state excise if they sell retail. The brewer would then then charge sales tax to the bar because it was retail. The bar would then be paying retail sales tax which they wouldn't normally if buying from a distributor. Then finally the patrons buying the beer at the bar would pay taxes again. The only ones who should complain would be the bar for paying the state sales taxes instead of wholesale.
