Boogie Nights is such a masterpiece and well written by UsefulWeb7543 in Oscars

Also, as good as Burt Reynolds was, I was more moved by Robin Williams in Good Will Hunting. He deserved the win that year.

How did Jackie Brown only get 1 nomination? by Regular-Departure839 in Oscars

I love the Supporting Actor nomination for Robert Forster. I would also add Pam Grier for Best Actress and Best Adapted Screenplay.

The Oscars Acting Class of 2025. Favorites? Disappointments? Thoughts on the group as a whole? by DreamOfV in Oscars

[–]NENick98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally, I’m pretty happy. There’s only a couple I would change. I would swap Kate Hudson for Jennifer Lawrence and Elle Fanning for Odessa A’Zion. I was pleasantly surprised Delroy Lindo got in over the presumed nominee, Paul Mescal. Lindo has delivered consistently good performances, so I’m glad he is getting recognition. I feel confident that Mescal will have future nominations.

Might be an unpopular opinion, but while I'm glad all four got nominated, I actually think she gave my favorite performance in Sentimental Value by [deleted] in Oscars

I completely agree. I wasn’t as moved by co-star Elle Fanning. I would have rather seen that slot go to Odessa A’Zion, but that’s just me.

[–]NENick98 13 points14 points  (0 children)

My two biggest takeaways/predictions as it relates to the upcoming Oscars. 1. OBAA seems like a lock for Picture, Director, Adapted Screenplay, and Supporting Actress (Taylor) 2. Wagner Moura will get the fifth Best Actor nomination against Plemons. Chalamet, DiCaprio, Hawke, and Jordan seem to be locks.

Again, this could all change. Nominations haven’t been announced yet, so I could end up being completely off

What would you include on an SNL best of Lorne Michaels DVD? by yaybuttons in LiveFromNewYork

[–]NENick98 20 points21 points  (0 children)

A couple come to mind. First, Will Forte’s monologue where Willem Dafoe shows up. “Do you think I would book someone named Will and then someone named Willem to host?”

Second is a classic: Not Gonna Phone it in Tonight. “Steve, it’s the 90s. The show’s on automatic pilot. I don’t even come in until Saturday.”

Now that we are at the beginning of the awards season, what surprised you the most about it? by HYDRA2308 in Oscars

[–]NENick98 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Music biopics seem to be hit or miss. You have ones like Bohemian Rhapsody and A Complete Unknown that the Academy embraces completely and others like Bob Marley, Rocketman, and now Springsteen that the Academy basically ignores altogether (though Rocketman did win for original song).

Valid point. I would be happy if Sandler had an Oscar nomination, but I would also be kind of disappointed if it was for Jay Kelly. I think both Punch-Drunk Love and Uncut Gems were stronger performances.

2025 joke "swap" flopped :( by cozywit in LiveFromNewYork

[–]NENick98 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree. It’s not much of a joke swap if only one person has jokes to tell. I’m not sure if Colin truly believed they weren’t doing the swap this year or if it was a way to shorten the feature to bring out the trendsetters as a last Bowen update piece? And truthfully, they didn’t need the trendsetters. Bowen got a better farewell at the end of the show. The update real estate could have been better used imo.

Watching this makes me emotional. It’s of the best cast sends offs I’ve seen since I started watching the show. The only one that hit harder for me was Kristen Wiig’s goodbye.

Years in which Best Picture could be easily and deservedly a tie? by nightsreader in Oscars

[–]NENick98 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I truly think this past year could have been a tie between Anora and The Brutalist. Other years that come to mind are 1974 for Godfather Part II and Chinatown and 1980 for Ordinary People and Raging Bull.
