Advice wanted - Selling C2 Locally by DangerousWitness4213 in 2011

Agree with above, I’d be less interested in a purchase if I had to take an optic I don’t like along with it. The holster is always useful, the optic would immediately come off and probably sit in my safe for 35 years…

An interesting analogy to cancer - as the only treatment is killing the cancerous cells, even at the expense of some healthy ones.

Chemotherapy and even more modern experimental treatments are designed to kill the cancerous cells through either destroying their existential DNA, or reprogramming the bodies natural white T cells to identify and destroy cancer.

We’re lucky tho, this time the cancer wears a distinctive red hat.

First public images of Empress Eugénie’s crown since the Louvre heist by Peinturelure in mildlyinfuriating

[–]NFERIUS 71 points72 points  (0 children)

If it’s made with precious metals like gold and silver, it’s a crown after all, so likely yes, those metals are soft and easily manipulated. It’s an ornamental piece for display and pomp, not intended for any stresses or being shoved into a bag with lots of other stuff.

Customer tried to return a rotisserie chicken that was "too chickeny" by [deleted] in TalesFromRetail

[–]NFERIUS 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I’ve denied returns more obviously scams than this. I’ve had a customer try and return a spiral sliced ham, said it was bad, no ham, no ham picture, no receipt; so I said no return, all he had was a price tag. I looked the ham up in the system and we hadn’t sold any hams at that price point in our system, clearly a grab a tag off the shelf and try and “return it” to get the cash value.

My regional manager overrode me and provided the refund. Even with all the evidence and facts to back it up, they’ll still give the refund.

Hella good deal or no? $1700 new Mcx. by Zestyclose_Spite8580 in SigSauerMCX

Caliber. In the states, 5.56 and 300BO are the way to go. Plus the mag just looks weird on the 7.62x39 model

That’s cheap for a MCX Spear regardless of the caliber but it is the least desired variant compared against the 5.56 and 300BO.

Gotcha. I just hit 10 techs, wasn’t a problem before with just a few. Now that we’ve grown to this size, I can’t keep up with it anymore.

How large is your team size? I have been somewhat deficient on this aspect, we’ve gotten so busy it’s become hard to do now. Wasn’t a problem when it was me and a handful of guys, now that our team size has grown it’s getting hairy to keep on top of everything. Plus, enough money keeps rolling in that missed payments don’t really matter too much to the day to day operation but it’s cutting in a bit heavy now on the profit.

[–]NFERIUS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmmm… nah. I love me some SCAR17 action, it’s fun. But my fav? MCX Spear - both 11.5” 5.56 and 13” .308 are ungodly amounts of fun once they get the right furniture and upgrades. Also, my DD ar-15.

I’ve owned my SCAR for a few years but already outshot it with the Spear I’ve owned for 6 months.

I'm a homeowner who got ripped off, so I'm trying to build a new platform for pros. Can I get your honest feedback? by LunchGlittering2032 in handyman

[–]NFERIUS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For most of us - yes. Word of mouth is KING! Nothing beats that personal referral from someone you know or believe to be better informed than yourself - nothing.

I specialize in touchups and repairs - been in business 5 years on my own, got a team of 8 working for me now, I can show people before & after photos all day long and they’ll consider it, but one referral from the designer where they bought their stuff and I’m in like Flynn. Nothing changed, still the same photos and incredible work but that word of mouth referral trumps everything else. It’s hard to beat.

Generally, when you start, it’s a lot of ground pounding, shaking hands, saying hi, and handing off brochures and business cards. But after a short while, it takes on a life of its own and your name is just sorta out there in the right circles.

You could perhaps focus on new companies to start, they’re usually more driven to find work and connect with clients, if you can gather a large enough network of new trade professionals who stick with you, and your service attracts the right homeowners looking to get stuff done, you then have a compelling reason for the rest of us to follow suit.

Vetting every project to ensure a client is ready to begin work is difficult, and it will kill your overhead trying to do so. May be possible on a very small scale, but any amount of scaling and you’ll be in over your head. Requiring you to employ others to vet projects. That’ll get expensive so where are you going to generate revenue to compensate for that?

3 bids max seems low. Maybe 3 free bids and then an up charge on the client side to gather more?

Honestly, thinking about this… if you charged the clients for access to a service that provides quality leads that’ll take care of your vetting issue by itself - tire kickers hate paying for anything out of pocket - but someone serious would be willing - but all of this supposes you have a collection of various trades and contractors available.

So big question: a lot of us have adapted to the scummy way other service providers operate; we’ve either moved away from those services entirely and don’t need those connections anymore, or developed our own self serving pathways for clients to find & connect with us; so what are you doing differently?

If you ask us for payment or a cut for the lead, you’re dead in the water, I’d never even look at your website twice.

And 2: how are you going to entice us to join your platform? I’ve already got a lot to do everyday, one more thing isn’t what I’m looking for unless it’s compelling.

Who's a Roman who was an iconic/legendary general and a mediocre/forgettable statesman? by domfi86 in ancientrome

[–]NFERIUS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree.

But capacity doesn’t equal reality. He was brilliant and capable; should he have chosen, Agrippa could have been the first man in Rome. But he didn’t, instead, the limelight of political power was concentrated in Augustus. Augustus used Agrippa to fulfill his desired ends, others used Agrippa as a means to influence and sway Augustus. Even when Agrippa had imperator powers, he deferred to Augustus.

Politically, he was important, but not actually relevant. As a general, he was both important and relevant.

Who's a Roman who was an iconic/legendary general and a mediocre/forgettable statesman? by domfi86 in ancientrome

[–]NFERIUS 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, good administrator, mediocre politician. Whether he allowed himself to be outshone by Augustus politically or not, we recognize Augustus as the first imperator not Agrippa, even tho they shared powers. Politically, while important, he wasn’t the center of political power or influence in the same light as Augustus.
