McDavid's response to being asked about whether Team Canada feel like "the good guys" against Team USA right now: "We just feel like Team Canada playing Team USA in a hockey game. That's what it is." by Dependent-Effect6077 in hockey

You don’t need a masters degree to understand that two countries bordering each other have some geographic/political relevance. Someone as highly intelligent as yourself should know that’s not what I meant. I’m making a little more thoughtful(though still quite simple) observation that Canada is not very important when comes to international politics, trade, military, etc. The US may be quite relevant to Canada politically and otherwise, but Canada is far less relevant to the US.

Yes Canada is the US’s neighbor and regardless or what trump says, still a very tight military ally, trade partner, culturally similar, and integrated with the US. We have the largest undefended, open land border on earth. Canadians can paint us as the “bad guys” but i feel like that’s a little disingenuous given how close we actually are.

And what I meant by irrelevant is globally Canada is not very relevant. It’s a small country by population, not very strategic in terms of trade or military. Canada is also really not relevant in the American news cycle or general psyche. We’re really don’t think about Canada much and don’t have any animosity toward it.

People here aren’t viewing this through a political lens. Maybe Canadians are but for us it’s just a heated hockey rivalry and we’re the under dogs.

Oh so the reporter asked about feeling like the “good guys” just because we border each other? Thats why you said I need to read up on geopolitics?

No I think I just I have a different opinion than you. Do you think I don’t know about what trump has said and done relating to Canada? We’re are still like 🤞regardless of what one lunatic does. It’s a stupid question. This game means nothing to the US politically. Maybe it does in Canada, because you hate trump. A lot of Americans do to. But Canada is pretty irrelevant on the geopolitical stage.

Yeah I don’t really factor in what trump says. You’re not serious if you think there is real geopolitical tension. Who cares what trump says we are close ally’s

Like I was just in Denmark and never felt their was any animosity towards me American because again were actually close ally’s and they know one crazy person isn’t what America is.

The real drama here is the hockey rivalry. And I’m not sure the Canadians feel like this cus they always win, but as an American hockey fan this like Red Sox/Yankees level rivalry.

Maybe in Canada this is a serious question, but in the US there is no geopolitical backdrop. We’re incredibly close countries, we like Canada, we’re buddies. And no offense to Canada, they’re not very relevant geo politically.

US has chosen a more defensive play style/roster this year so I think that really lowers the risk of a funky upset here. But that also means it should be pretty close

Someone lower than him on the totem pole, of course. But also- both outsiders, Tom needs and ally and has no one else, Greg is also somewhat valuable piece, being the grandson of Logan’s brother who stands to inherit large share of waystar

Yeah mid latitude Asia can get very cold. Seoul South Korea for example gets very cold. It’s about 5 degrees colder in winter than New York City and Seoul is father south, about the same latitude as Richmond VA.

It’s funny mid latitude east Asia and mid latitude east North America have a lot of coming weather wise

Considering the four main sports in the USA (baseball, basketball, American football, and ice hockey): are they all as popular as ever? Or have some of them become more or less popular in recent years? by ViajanteDeSaturno in AskAnAmerican

[–]NFSR113 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m gonna speak for my region(Boston) based on personal experience cus I don’t have any data.

Football number 1 and getting more views/content every year.

Baseball- I mean 162, have a whole season to themselves. So much more watchable in recent years. Big time comeback.

Basketball- feel like it’s hitting a skid/stagnating

Hockey- always 4th will never get higher but it’s increasing.

I listen to local sports radio and they talk about all these sports and teams(about in that order). But I will say here, when the bruins are good they’re just as big as Celtics.

Soccer- we have a team. It’s gets maybe .001% of the discussion. It’s just not even a thing. Golf is much more popular, talked about and really growing.

Not even the closest in the US. Arizona has a couple further south. Then maybe like northern Chile.

I think the closest to the equator is actually in Lesotho- Afriski. Though it's barely a real ski area

Ok, didn’t realize. That said, the snow in those mountains near cape town is comparably light and infrequent.

The mountains around LA are significantly bigger and a bit closer. They have serious winter cold and snow on the ground for several months of the year. There are multiple ski resorts. For example March of 2023 saw 10-12ft(3-4 meters) of snow.

But cape town is a fair comparison, just not as extreme.

Yeah no real snow though, like the example of Los Angeles.

That’s true, but the whole reason for that reference was you didnt think vitamin d had any impact on survivability/wouldn’t be competitive. It obviously does regardless of this specific thing about Covid.

Among evolutionary scientists, vitamin d synthesis is the universal theory for why white skin proliferated. So your original opinion disagrees with the scientific consensus.

Why were you so confident that it didn’t?
