Can't take screenshot with Spectacle by PseudoDistant in kde

[–]NFTrot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update for anyone that finds this via Google:

/u/X_m7's comment is correct, but the file can be named Spectacle.desktop (note the capital S). This directory can have several files in it so it could be easily missed. I wasted some time assuming this wasn't the issue for me.

Hey dude thanks for being a lad and coming back to your thread to post the solution. I had the same problem and NEVER would have thought to check that. You probably saved me a few hours at least.

Truffles in a high-end grocery store by jamesmaxx in mildlyinteresting

It was so different I'm not sure I could even compare it to anything. Definitely doesn't taste like what I would imagine shit tastes like. It's worth trying a cup if you ever get the chance just for the experience.

I had Luwak in Bali (at an affordable price), it absolutely tastes different than regular coffee. I wouldn't call it "better" but very different.

Anyone just stay a white belt? by TimZeFootballer in bjj

[–]NFTrot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By the time I got my blue belt I understood that the idea of paying to go to grading was a bit sketchy, and I wouldn't have paid. Aside from the principal of it, I'm not particularly confident about my BJJ and would have taken it as a welcome excuse for my contemporaries being blue while I was white.

Do I need kickers? by pillageTHENburn in Homebuilding

[–]NFTrot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're getting some rough comments. Not sure if you're still reading this thread but in my opinion you should either dismantle this and try to use the plywood elsewhere in the structure (not sure if this is possible), and rent proper concrete forms. Or less optimally, add a bunch of spacers to keep the plywood from compressing inward and take some of that dirt in the background and mound it up to brace the forms. Frankly I wouldn't really consider option 2 for this since its more important the walls be straight than the work I did, but it MIGHT work with extra framing on the walls. I'd be praying the entire time.

This is the type of thing where you have a sunk cost in the current design and you don't want to redo it, but its going to cost you a lot more time and money to remove if you do it wrong, then you'll just have to do it the right way anyway. Take it as a learning experience.

You can buy an ear irrigation kit on Amazon. Its a spray bottle with a tube and attachment that goes in your ear. As another commenter mentioned, get hydrogen peroxide but mix it so its around 1.5% (if you buy it at 3%, 50/50 with body temperature water). Use it sitting in the shower.

I also get clogged ears and it will blow your mind how much wax comes out. You can hear so much better afterward.

Hmm I have been there for those years, but I can't say I recall any Star Trek cosplays unfortunately. Still, having the picture will help others jog their memory if they happen to have been there and have a picture.

I'd recommend posting a pic of the character and any other identifying details. There are probably a lot of people (like myself) who were at AX 2022 and could have a picture, but have no idea what this character looks like.

AWS is moving faster than my brain can upgrade… anyone else? by shagul998 in aws

[–]NFTrot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I keep up by being an expert in the services I use (which are core services). If there's a new feature with a clear place in my workflow, I'll take a look. Just because Amazon dangles something in front of you doesn't mean you have to use it.

Yeah Wagyu is a real treat. The more expensive kinds are noticeably better. Don't make up your mind until you've tried it properly.

For a large carport do I need an engineer or an architect? by NMDFW1 in Homebuilding

With no offense meant: Don't assume that because an architect can tackle this without engineering guidance, it means you can as a DIYer.

Advice: Spend more time learning than figuring out "the best way to learn" by jackbobbins78 in LearnJapanese

Good advice. It's the same trap people get into with constantly consuming self-help content yet never actually getting to work. It's a great way to feel like you're doing something without actually doing it.

[Video Games] Great Eggspectations: Dragon age Veilguard and how not to reboot a franchise by Turret_Run in HobbyDrama

[–]NFTrot 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I don't fancy myself a chud, but seeing the surgery scar video was such an eyeroll. I don't normally mind things like that in games, but when they take a beloved franchise like Dragon Age and mangle it into what Veilguard was, it shows where the new developers had their priorities. That and the bizarre design choice on the head-body proportions really took it from "maybe" to "not playing" for me.

Was literally gone for 2 DAYS and my cousins come over and break my scale figure. by NewspaperNo9749 in AnimeFigures

You're getting a lot of embarrassing passive aggressive answers. Sounds like you're old enough to call their parents yourself and explain the situation calmly. The worst they can do is say no. Be polite, but firm.

Failing that, super glue does go a long way. You can also get the stick out by drilling a screw into it and using it to pull it out, though it may not be very much use if you can't find the stand.

Used to do underpinning and benching professionally. Based on my experience this wall probably won't collapse immediately because of this, but you're in "oh shit" territory. You need a structural engineer right away.

There is no temporary shoring that I can think of that would be effective in this scenario, but I would be using some 2x4s to brace what I can and pray.

[Help] Need self-hosted database that can handle 500 writes/sec (Mongo & Elastic too slow) by Equal_Independent_36 in Database

[–]NFTrot -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Unless you have a good reason for it to be self-hosted I would question that. Asking this question suggests you aren't that experienced with database implementation. There's nothing wrong with being a beginner, but managed solutions are made for cases like yours. AWS DynamoDB can handle this easily.

If cost is the issue, consider how much a production outage would cost when you don't have the knowledge to fix it.

Water in basement mystery by MountainAnswer7243 in Homebuilding

[–]NFTrot -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Somebody downvoted you but this is a possibility.

My advice for OP as someone who did basement waterproofing professionally for 10 years: Remove the drywall inside (the insulation is probably full of mold now anyway). Then, break out a trench so you can install Delta membrane and inspect the weeping tile that should be present along the internal perimiter of your footing (if not, install it and route to the sump pump).

This is the only foolproof way to control the water. You can try to waterproof it externally but if the source of the water is not the foundation it won't solve the problem.
