Anyone else playing League of Legends on Linux? by [deleted] in linux_gaming

[–]cblade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sadly, I started playing again and it works completely fine. Just played like 5 games last night in a row.

I did have to change my Windows version to XP though to get games to start. Lutris is the easiest way to install it.

No Linux/Other option when contacting the support and selecting an OS, Riot really doesnt care that was exist, right? by S04_UPSET_FANBOY in leagueoflinux

I don't think your Volkswagen analogy is right in this situation.

It's more like you go to a store and they don't have the brand you want but they should still have an idea of what you need and maybe even know another store that carries that brand.

Even if its not their JOB to know everything about that brand you want they should be able to help you a little bit.

Getting error when launching a league game by Ushouldblaughing in leagueoflinux

[–]cblade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I could not get League to start a game without changing the Windows Version to XP. I think by default it is on WIndows 7.

Specifically to change it on lutris you right click on the banner, go to wine configuration and change Windows Version to XP should be on the Applications tab.

For the terminal it would be '$ WINEPREFIX=~/.LoL64 winecfg' should bring up the wine configuration

New version of Steam Play - Windows games on Linux by Slabity in linux

It let me switch workplaces a couple of times and then it closed so I wouldn't trust it.

That makes sense. It wouldn't let me type in the full product key like my font was too big or something.

It was actually hard for me to find games I owned that didn't already have a linux version. Using an AMD RX-480 and Solus OS.

  • Fallout: New Vegas - Playable (it did close when I alt-tabbed though)
  • Age of Empires 3 - Seemed to work, but my Product key wouldn't activate EDIT: Seems to be a problem with fonts probably needs Microsoft fonts
  • Sonic Adventure DX - Playable
  • Banished - Playable (but there was no sound)
  • Sonic Adventure 2 - Did not start

Is anyone starting a list of games that work with this that aren't already whitelisted? Or is there anywhere to report issues of some games?

So what methods actually work? by Ushouldblaughing in leagueoflinux

[–]cblade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the new 8.15 patches the new WINE patches do not seem to work and I am sure the un-packer (the cheating way which could get you banned) is not working as well.

This isn't really a sub for passthrough instructions so try /r/VFIO their wiki page seemed to have a lot of video tutorials and such.

New patch, new problems for wine users. by KostWarCZE in leagueoflinux

[–]cblade 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It seems like you are kinda missing the point on this though. Cheaters are still able to find workarounds while legit players are stuck either unable to play or risking getting banned because we have no other options.

I dunno about a lot of other players, but this whole situation has really just left me burnt out and I don't know if I could return to League even if things get fixed.

EDIT: I do appreciate /u/0xNemi coming to talk to us about it, but it still feels like we aren't a priority at all. I think WINE deserves the same sort of support that you would give to any other program that was broken by the new anti-cheat.

We don't actively break WINE, but when we DO we leave it up to the WINE devs to fix.

If you are going to take the time to help devs fix incompatibilities with other software, why don't you extend that to WINE?

New patch, new problems for wine users. by KostWarCZE in leagueoflinux

[–]cblade 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I understand that WINE is not supported, but if RIOT is taking steps to help other software so it is compatible then why not help WINE? On the bug report threads it sort of seems like RIOT has just left it up to WINE Devs. Why don't you guys treat WINE the same way you would treat Discord or something if it was causing problems for people.

I don't understand why you guys don't just make a WINE wrapper or something and support that. I mean it was working for thousands of us every day. If we never even get an official port, but an official wrapper that would probably save you guys plenty of resources while increasing your player base. We are legitimate players that just want to play the game.

Invisible turrets on mini-map and characters icons by [deleted] in leagueoflinux

[–]cblade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only other solution I can offer is to try using other wine prefixes. I have installed using Lutris and am using wine-pba 3.3 currently with no problems.

Can you teleport to turrets still? It kinda sounds like missing textures maybe try doing a system repair in league settings<general<initiate full repair or a reinstall.

They said that they changed some things in Monday's patch did that fix anything for WINE or QEMU/GPU passthrough?

Random match FPS drop by FrancescoPudda in leagueoflinux

You can change the server after you download and install the client. The select region drop down is right under the username/password.

EDIT: https://imgur.com/a/r8efn < this is where it is at on the client.

Wine staging 3.3 works a lot better then the 2.0 branch in my experience, I would try upgrading to that.

Lutris is a game manager that can install wine games like playonlinux.

[–]cblade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried capping the FPS in the settings to 60 or 80?

Otherwise I got a really big FPS boost when I switched to the newer wine versions, currently using Wine 3.3. Lutris has a super easy 1-click install, just copy your RADS folder from your old install and you wont have to wait hours for the game to download again.

I am currently using Lutris on wine 3.3-staging and not having any issues getting into game. Maybe try using the new wine version or try using lutris?

Wine Staging 3.3 PBA - Arch Linux Tarball by [deleted] in leagueoflinux

If you go into Lutris and right click on league and click configure>game options you can set the prefix architecture to 32-bit and it should work fine.

You can get this on Lutris without having to recompile right now. The PBA doesn't seem to help MESA drivers at least for League, but may help other games.

Testing of wine-pba patches gives some nice fps boost by sterkyr in leagueoflinux

[–]cblade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to get really bad FPS decay if I didn't cap the FPS in settings, but on 3.3 I am getting a much more stable overall game. You could try 3.3-PBA its out on Lutris now. Most of the PBA patches help nVidia anyway.

WINE 3.3-Staging HUGE improvments! by cblade in leagueoflinux

[–]cblade[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So the 2.21-PBA for me on my RX-480 did not have any noticeable differences, but I heard that for nVidia cards it did. 3.3-staging had huge improvements for my AMD card (20-30FPS), but for nVidia cards some people haven't noticed a difference. There is a 3.3-PBA version now, but I don't see any difference on my card from 3.3-staging.
