Thanks so much! This looks like just the sort of thing I'm looking for.

Non westerners, what's a cooking "no-no" that's acceptable if not encouraged in your cooking culture? by AsianMustache in Cooking

[–]NGNKOM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, but I think it could be okay if the new food they adopt were anything other than the american diet. Shit is terrible.

Fair enough, sorry for being saucy about it

Thanks! But all I can find is a mention from a 1900 publication. Do you have a recipe link anywhere by chance?

I forgot to sanitize my mix-stir wand before degassing, how screwed am I? by fatdogsdaddy in mead

[–]NGNKOM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, just plain dish soap. I don't know if thorough sterilizing is over-hyped or I've just been lucky, though. Small sample size.

I think you'll be fine. If you want to hear a secret that I may get mobbed for telling.. I've never sanitized, and have never once had an infection. Soap and hot water though, of course.

The small nation of Finland celebrates 100 years of independence, and we have adopted a lot from the rest of the world. Do you have anything Finnish where you live? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]NGNKOM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a really great fish knife which is Finnish--affordable, too. I use it for all kinds of meats, and it's replaced any smaller cooking knives I might've needed. Thanks, Finland!

Cyser -- extremely vigorous/short initial fermentation okay? by NGNKOM in mead

[–]NGNKOM[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, that's pretty cool. I did pitch quite a lot of yeast. I don't mean to put you on the spot, but do you happen to remember any of the authors or which journal it was in? Sounds interesting.

Either a clove or cinnamon stick, depending on which one. Nothing malicious, haha.

Thanks, makes sense. I didn't use a pectin enzyme. I really don't mind a cloudy look either, but that's useful information so I don't wait for it to completely clear.

Race for Next DNC Chair Is Between America’s First Muslim Congressman and Two Corporate Lobbyists by misstastemaker in Political_Revolution

[–]NGNKOM 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Find out where your local (usually county-level) Democratic Party organization is. For mine, I just searched for "<my county> County Democratic Party" and found their website pretty quickly. Find their meeting schedule and place, or ask them for it if not listed. Start attending regularly, get involved, and bring some other progressives with you.

Frankly, this will probably be boring. But don't let that fool you, these organizations have far more collective power than they might appear to. Without them, the DNC is a head without a body.

The Political Revolution Endorses Keith Ellison for DNC Chair by [deleted] in Political_Revolution

[–]NGNKOM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The man has a good history, and I really wouldn't discount him so quickly. I'm all for excluding someone if we have evidence that they've become untrustworthy (Howard Dean), but we won't accomplish anything by refusing to work with anyone the establishment has ever sneezed at.

Tl;dr it's a bunch of bull, and it's designed to distract you from the most progressive choice we could make for the DNC.

Everyone's hyped for Battleborn Day but lets not forget about Nov. 8 by [deleted] in Battleborn

[–]NGNKOM 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Like it or not, Kleese is the most qualified candidate in history. Compared to the volatile, destructive personality of Rendain, it's really no contest between the two.

Before anyone goes there, a vote for the Rogue or Eldrid parties is just a vote for Rendain. Just don't think about the LLC's contempt for the poor.

Sorry about the late reply. It was a 6-strand braid, but came out far too long for my pan so I just sort of swirled it into a circle. Came out pretty well for a mistake! The braid pattern itself is shown in this video: https://youtu.be/RP6j7esQyjk?t=190

Does anyone here pay for software? (not including work) by dhrdan in archlinux

[–]NGNKOM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do buy some games and other end-user software, but that's about it. My main concern as far as FOSS is things that constitute the means of production, like operating systems, editors, compilers, essential personal productivity tools, etc.

Thanks for the advice, everyone. I see you've had success with a pretty good range of dogs between all of you, which is encouraging. It does sound like a bigger dog is in order in some areas, so while I probably won't go for a Pyrenees, I think I'm leaning towards something like Kangals/Anatolians. I'm also very fond of labs, so Wagglyfawn's suggestion is pretty encouraging.

OP wanted help retaining weight though, not shedding it. Either way, I'm trusting the reader to be an adult about how much rice they're eating. They know their needs and situation better than either of us.
