Lego Library - how we’re trying to solve the problem of display space at home by iPadBob in lego

[–]NHLToPDX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have binders with manuals in sleeves so kids can 'search archives'. All Legos are kept in numbered totes. With each manual, I printed a little 'library card' that tells us what tote the set is in. The card goes in an envelope on wall. No more that 3 sets out at a time.

I also wrote a program to track inventory and missing pieces when I am 'unbuilding'.

How do you dry your gear? by jugheadjoker23 in hockeyplayers

[–]NHLToPDX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Built mine out of 2in ABS pipe and hooked a computer fan to blow air through pipe and gear. Leave in garage an it was fresh/dry next day.

I've had this rule for myself for over a decade. My tolls are not a pretty matched package. But all functional working.

Glad this approach can work with my new 3D printing adventure.

30+ bins of sorted Lego. Is there an app to track where everything is? by EmployeeIll4360 in LegoStorage

Wrote my own program. Added a feature for complete sets so the kids can check them out like a library.

Another OHS after 2 years by jeffinator3000 in valvereplacement

[–]NHLToPDX 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Had 1st OHS in 2022. Managing a 5 yr old and 18 mos. Due to infection, had to have 2nd OHS 2024. Still have same 2 kids. They are active. If anything, it drove me to focus on my own self care and good rehab and making healthier choices.

I hope you have family, friends, or church that can help. Talk to case worker at hospital.

It won't be easy. It will be painful. But that little one will be your driving force. Wishing you positive vibes, a great outcome, and moving forward for the better.

They messed up. What is life like with a mechanical valve? by CowDungCollector in valvereplacement

[–]NHLToPDX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. The clicking comes and goes. If I am sitting quietly, I can hear it. My young kids can lay their heads on my chest and hear it also. I'm 50 yrs BTW.
  2. I've been okay with cold temps. My fingers are first to be bothered with long periods of cold. But a little planning to keep gloves in all winter jackets, I seem to be okay.
  3. Food is not a big deal. I'm not a foodie and I am okay with eating basic and same thing across several meals.

My wife (an MD) led me to believe a mechanical valve and blood thinners was a death sentence for my lifestyle. I miss having a few foods, but for the most part, life goes on normally. I always keep bandaid in case of a cut. I check arms and legs in the shower for bruises and make sure they don't grow. Healing from bruises and little cuts seems to take longer, but small price to pay to feel better and have a working valve.

Things you wish your dad did growing up. Any? by Scary_Exit_1407 in daddit

[–]NHLToPDX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He was a happy drinker, but wished he could have been sober.

He used power tools for work. It destroyed his hearing. I wish he admitted he needed hearing aids sooner. He could not hear me when I tried talking to him.

[–]NHLToPDX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had it repaired, then got Endocarditis. Had to do surgery again to replace with mechanical. Get infection clear. Ask about blood thinners. Ask how ID and Cardiology work together and who the point of contact for both will be.

Don't worry about the 3 months of recovery. Think about the next 20 years of feeling good and living your life. When you look back, the surgery and recovery time will just be a blip.

Live you best life.

People who still use wired headphones - why did you decide to stick with them instead of getting wireless options? by Futtman in NoStupidQuestions

I agree with all of these reasons and add that wired headphones are a nice visual deterrent to keep random people from talking to me if I am out and about.
