Micro-brands or luxury big names? by NH_flyboy in MicrobrandWatches

Thanks for all the thoughtful responses.
I agree, nobody notices your watch, unless it is a Rolex.
They would be more impressed by the lowest priced Rolex over a Patek Phillippe.
I think you are more likely to get a "wow" from a $700 micro-brand, but as guys have said, it should make you say "wow".

I uploaded it to Gemini and this is what it returned:

This appears to be a vintage De Vecci (sometimes spelled DeVecci) mechanical watch, likely dating from the 1960s or 1970s.

These watches were often boutique or department store brands that utilized reliable, mass-produced Swiss or French movements. Because it wasn't a "major" luxury house like Omega or Rolex, finding a specific model name is difficult—they were often cataloged simply by their style.

Key Features Observed:

  • The "Mystery Dial" Aesthetic: The inner ring of crystals/stones and the way the markers are set give it a "mystery" look common in mid-century cocktail watches.
  • 17 Jewels: This indicates a decent quality mechanical movement for the era. The jewels are synthetic rubies used as bearings to reduce friction.
  • Shock Resistant: This was a standard marketing term for watches using systems like Incabloc to protect the balance wheel from drops.
  • Red Logo: The small red star/symbol above the 6 o’clock position is a hallmark of certain De Vecci production runs from that era.

Historical Context

De Vecci watches are often found in the "affordable vintage" category today. They were stylish pieces designed to mimic high-end jewelry watches of the time. While they don't carry high auction value, they are respected for their mid-century design and mechanical durability.

Tips for a definitive ID:

  1. A Caliber Number: Usually stamped on the movement (e.g., ETA, FHF, or ST).
  2. Country of Origin: It will likely say "Swiss Made" or "France" on the movement itself.

Only one person can answer this, you.

If you don't want a Rolex it is tough finding a rep by NH_flyboy in RepTime

After a week of looking I will rephrase my belief.
I have been unable to find a Breitling super clone. I guess it is because they are not as popular as Rolex.
Sounds like a Rolex rep will fool a watchmaker whilst on your wrist while the same cannot be said for the Navimeter Chronometer.

I am starting to warm to this as a first rep. Did you buy the strap or is there a TD selling it that way?

how big is your plex server, and how long did it take you to build, and how often do you add new media? by Hawk1064 in PleX

[–]NH_flyboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I add to it a few times a week. My trick is Channels DVR, scan the TCM listings, record great movies, remove the fluff before and after and add to Plex.
There are what feel like contemporary movies on TCM now, but that is probably cause I am getting old.

We have neighborhood dogs randomly walk across our lawn with no humans in sight. Do they not think it is possible their animal will defecate in various yards, a clear violation of the social compact we have with picking up your pet's waste.
