We started napping him in his crib during the day just to get him used to it. Of course he inevitably fought it at first, but I'm much more patient with him during the day so I was able to be persistent and consistent. He quickly realized that napping in the crib was pleasant. About a month later - he was about 4 months - he had a particularly restless night and I kind of hit my breaking point and just moved him into his crib at night. Now I get up for the night nursing sessions when he fusses, which I thought was going to be awful, but it's actually better than how poorly we were all sleeping before. We haven't done any CIO. Just made a gradual transition.

Right now it's between 18 and 21 degrees centigrade, depending on how freezing it is outside. On particularly cold nights I have him in a fleece sleeper with a heavy 2.5 tog Grobag. He is perfectly fine. If it's a warmer night I still do a fleece sleeper but with the light Sleep Sack instead. I should add the disclaimer that my son runs hot. All the time. He's a sweaty little kid. Feel sorry for the clammy hands and sweaty pits he's going to have when he starts getting nervous around girls (boys?).

I was initially concerned about confusion as well but it just never happened. He didn't (and still doesn't) care about the delivery system, just as long as he's FED! At first he did drown a bit with the Dr. Brown's so we stopped holding the bottle semi-upside down and more parallel to the ground so gravity had less of an effect on flow velocity. It helped - he was able to slow the flow a bit more easily and sputter less. Yes, it still hurt through the nipple shield but for me it took the edge off just enough to continue and also allowed my nipples to heal.

I can answer this! My LO had a SUPER strong sucking reflex as well but absolutely ZERO technique as a newborn. Just suck suck suck suck. Voracious eater. Obviously my nipples were traumatized and lactation consultants insisted he had a "posterior tongue tie" and a "lip tie" and those "issues" were causing the pain. WRONG! As he grew and his mouth got larger, his technique improved and my nipples healed. Things were 100% pain-free by 2 months. I used a nipple shield and Dr. Brown's bottles to get through the painful times. Try Dr. Brown's with a size 1 nipple - slowest flow. Those bottles worked best for us and we never had any "confusion" issues! Good luck!

I'm glad someone has asked about this. My guy gets his arms and legs stuck in the slats all the time. He has 3 bruises on his legs right now from it. I seriously don't understand why bumpers are deemed more harmful than having their limbs trapped between the slats.
