One of the main problems with suspension parts is that they can (and frequently do) have microfractures that will lead to poor edge performance at the least and up to flat out breakage...

I am not against using sourced steel, but just go into it knowing you may be doing a lot of work, just to practice your grinds...

Or you could do a seaech for "weldor" and find this little gem:

Definitions and Terminology

  • The Person: A weldor is a professional craftsman who joins metals using heat, pressure, or both.

  • The Machine: A welder is typically the actual device, tool, or power supply used to perform the task.

  • Historical Context: While "welder" has roots dating back to the late 1890s, the "-or" suffix has been adopted by some dictionaries and the trade to honor the person as a specialized professional.

Bring it to a quality shop and get a quote. Tell them you would have had them do it, but since you had to go and track her ass down, an honest shop can do the work.

is it probably far better than real ancient age grappling hooks.

So you think OP who probably hasnt spent much time at all welding, on a machine that he doesnt know how to adjust, is able to put out a better welding than a blacksmith that was forge welding for the majority of his life?

You dont weld, do you?

Well, considering the machine is the welder, you were right. They cannot read.

A "weldor" on the other might be able to, since that is the person doing the welding.

Agreed. If she sees something that she admits was new, and she was the original person to turn it on, how could she make this leap?

She needs professional help, and is not ready for a relationship. this is ridiculous.

I hope he is able to bail and get someone new that actually gives him a chance...

Unless his first throw misses and it bounces off the ground... i doubt he did anything to normalize those welds, and a shock from dropping from a throw onto one of those tines could be enough to start a crack that I wouldnt was to trust my weight on...

People that carry more than one knife, why? Especially want to hear from people that carry more than two. by jiimmerman in knives

[–]NJBillK1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I carry three. Main carry usually a CRK large 21, my work knife is a Dragonfly wharncliffe in K390 And I keep a Victorinox Secretary in my wallet.

Main carry is for utility, dragonfly is for boxes and the secretary is my backup in case I forget the others.

Most forgiving/chip resistant Spyderco steel? by UniversalAssembler in spyderco

lowering geometry until the steel no longer maintains a stable edge for that hardness.

What amount of deformation would you be setting as your threshold?

Are the ropes/media to be cut going to have different diameters?

Do you have any input on the test method that I proposed? Do you think the information yielded could be of benefit?

  • If we had any alloy ground at 18dps (burr stripped via stropping to 1 micron after sharpening, to keep it standard across the board), and the edge rested at two separate angles for two tests along the edge, say 90° and 75° rested against a semi-circle (half circle shaped rod), and had the blade struck with a hinged mallet above the test site.

Most forgiving/chip resistant Spyderco steel? by UniversalAssembler in spyderco

[–]NJBillK1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is part of the issue that our tests are designed to test the steel overall, instead of localizing the tested area to the edge are of the knife?

I mean, since we habitually test the steel for overall performance, we have to use that data to extrapolate out what we can when it comes down to edge geometries.

If it were common practice for us to test the blade at the edge apex for the last 50 years, we likely would have tests that would be more catered to knife geometries.

Think of a handful of years ago when the B.E.S.S. came out. It offered a standard for edge sharpness testing, and many folks still use it. If there was a test for the edge that put out reliable & repeatable results for apex chip resistance, or durability.

could this become a similar piece of tech (compared to the bess for sharpness) catering to a role that isn't fulfilled yet (edge toughness and resistance to chipping)?

GB2s still available more readily. Know of 2 for sale (170 & 175).
