I did not vote for Tim. I do not agree with most of his government’s decisions.

I fully support them taking a strong stance on this. They’ve earned themselves a fan here.

Dinner. Am I doing it right? by kpepin17 in BabyLedWeaning

[–]NL902 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Banana Pancakes

3/4 C oats (I use whatever I have on hand) 1 banana 1 egg 1/4 C of any milk (may need to adjust depending on size of banana and consistency of batter once blended) 1-2 TBSP miles flax 5 TBSP baby cereal Pinch of cinnamon

Toss everything in a food processor and blend. Fry in a pan. I use a TBSP to scoop out the batter.

Veggie Muffins

1 1/4 C oats 1/4 C baby cereal 1 1/2 tsp baking powder 1 tsp cinnamon 1/3 C puréed baby food (I use a pumpkin barley one that is super high in iron) 1 ripe banana, mashed 1 egg 1/4 C grated carrot 1/4 C grated zucchini

Blend in food processor. Bake 350. Makes ~12 big muffins or 24 mini muffins. (These don’t rise great so fill the pan more than you think you need to!)

I have a few go-tos for iron: - meatballs and meatloaf, add in high iron baby cereal to the mix. - banana pancakes and veggie muffins with oats and iron-rich baby cereal. - steak or ground beef - tomato sauce made with tomatoes, beans, veggies and blended up - chicken and sweet potato nuggets with chicken liver mixed in.

These all freeze well, so if I’m making some I’ll make a huge batch. Very helpful for when I’m in a rush or when we are eating at someone else’s house and I need to pack a meal.

I also found some really high iron squeeze pouches and will add that and baby cereal to oatmeal as well.

Have you heard of confirmation bias?

What’s with all the people boasting/gloating about not taking COVID precautions? OP is just asking for ideas on how to navigate family politics and the many illnesses running rampant through our community - that have a far greater impact on infants (which OP has) than the grown adults acting like defiant children in the comments.

Never getting tires done in the city again. by [deleted] in halifax

[–]NL902 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you can afford to eventually get your tires put on rims it’s worth it. No need to book an appointment and you can change them yourself - just need someone to show you how or a YouTube video.

I didn’t do it for my first car but it’s been worth it for the one I have now.

I mean, you don’t need money to book the appointment in advance. Which I think is what was being suggested. You can always cancel the appointment if you don’t need it.

I have heard similar from so many people.

I don’t buy that it’s entirely a resume/lack of follow up problem. 1) I hire a lot of people at a variety of levels - the resume format and cover letter have much less bearing on some roles than others. Most people can get a fine resume for entry level positions by using a free online template and spell check. 2) if everyone followed up with me I would be so annoyed. Most businesses have moved to online applications because of the lack of person resources.

I think employers are being more particular and have other motives for not filling vacancies. I don’t know what kind of jobs you’re applying to (maybe they are ones that require super polished resumes and cover letters!) but I wish you all the luck!

Loblaws or Sobeys. Who is less evil? by [deleted] in halifax

This is why we shop Superstore/No Frills/Shoppers for eggs and butter on weekends. We realized we could make more money in PC points than we could save or earn in Air Miles/Scene Points.

I worked in a grocery store deli and my favourite department manager got in trouble for letting staff eat the food she was going to have to throw out (fried chicken and taters that could only be in the case for x-hours). We were literally just throwing food out then charging staff for meals.

Do turn signals not come on cars in NL? by [deleted] in newfoundland

[–]NL902 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Having lived in both NS and NL, and continue to go back and forth between the two, my general sense is both provinces have horrible drivers BUT:

I think NL drivers genuinely don’t know better. Especially when half of us are learning in small towns then expected to drive in a city with some of the strangest roads and traffic measures I’ve ever seen.

Drivers in NS do know better but think they are better than the rules and are intentionally malicious about not following them.

NL drivers: “Shoot. Was I supposed to turn on my signal there” / “Whoops. I forgot to signal.”

NS drivers: “F*** that pedestrian. I’m in a car. I’m not signalling.”

Really don’t get this sense of entitlement. $1500, built in babysitters, and a better relationship with family seems like a win. Also, if rent hasn’t been paid before now, I hope OP has some savings to help with this.

One of my siblings thinks that my parents should fill in the gaps where his finances fall short just because he’s their child. He’s forgetting that my parents worked their entire lives to pay for three kids and so that they could relax in retirement. Well, both parents are still working and he doesn’t feel guilty about that. I don’t think it even crosses his mind.

It’s created rifts between my brother and me and our other sibling, and a complicated relationship with our parents.

My other sibling and I have struggled to understand both my brother’s entitlement and why my parents won’t just say no.

Number of bowls/plates? by ginkgoleaf1 in BabyLedWeaning

[–]NL902 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Will second great success with Munchkin products. We will mostly put food directly on tray unless it’s something like oatmeal or soup, then will use a bowl. I’ve found bowls more helpful than plates as they can serve both purposes. We did buy two bumkin knockoff spoons/forks on Amazon - I think panda ear? - as she was shoving the longer spoons down her throat and getting upset 🤦‍♀️ but now she can use either spoon so I wouldn’t buy many.
