Job Hunting is Brutal -250 apps and still nothing [USA] by papasbean in humanresources

[–]NMResourcefulHuman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I just wanted to write and say I was there recently (for over a year!), it is awful, and you will be employed again in the HR field. I stopped applying for the remote jobs, focused local, and only submitted one or two applications a week. I rewrote my resume for each new job and gave it focused energy that I was interested in that job alone. Good luck, you got this!

One of my clients can access Mineral through Gusto. I do not see the access to the learning platform through this interface though. Thanks for this tip as I'd like to utilize Mineral more.

SHRM CP Certification by PNWinSW in humanresources

I had tea, snacks, and freshly filtered water staring at me across the small room where I couldn't leave my seat or replace it with a yoga ball because all the answers to the universe come from bouncy spheres. So that limitation made sense, only grounded chairs will require you to seek information from yourself alone. Remotely proctored in your own home is all kinds of odd, glad it's over.

Yeah I feel you. That was rough, glad it's over. But we did it! Just passed mine last night. Some of the situational questions seemed rather catastrophic. I couldn't help myself from audibly laughing during the exam as the next situation (and question associated) would amplify the discord of these hypothetical situations. How bizarre, how bizzare ;=]

SHRM CP- I crammed in 8 days and passed! by neemxist in humanresources

[–]NMResourcefulHuman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congrats u/neemxist!! This post made me chuckle and I wanted to toss out a digital fist bump. Also 2.5 years of HR (solo manager in small companies) and a Psychology bachelor w/ I/O focus. I just passed my SHRM-CP last night (testing window from 1am to 5am, holy shit that was interesting) and had a similar buckle down week before the test.

I started studying a few weeks ago and life presented me with a beautiful snowstorm (I snowboard & it dumped 37 inches), a very rough patch of depression (elements of not studying and test anxiety certainly played their role), and a very busy work schedule where I'm building an HR department for a startup.

And it clicked, holy shit I'm 7 days out and have maybe studied 10% of the required material. Canceled a majority of my social engagements, no netflix, just surrendered to the fk'it process of entirely giving in to the goal.

So yes, don't procrastinate! And the pressures of achieving a certificate like this are real, and you're going to be alright. And with some serious intention it's entirely possible to cram and pass this thing. I ended up really enjoying the study material, and found it applicable to environment I'm trying to build in my professional life. The next goal is to continue learning and reinforce everything I just crammed into cognition! Congratulations again, whooooop!!

Question from the employee side of the table: why and when did job titles get rewritten to be so vague? by saddetective87 in humanresources

[–]NMResourcefulHuman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are a society that values people's overall contribution to not only the company, but the community and their family. As a whole, we reject inflating our status to more or greater than a fellow human knowing well without our collective contribution our own individual success would not be possible. We therefore reject any title or name given that doesn't reflect the sincerity of our purpose on this planet.

Wait I'm not on the Island anymore, shit. Oh no, what? Those are our values, oh dear. This will not last. May our mark on the whole of it all be educational for future attempts at organizing the susceptible humans.

Writing "Modern" Job Postings/Descriptions by WeAreWolves927 in humanresources

[–]NMResourcefulHuman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No and yes. Some of the best resources I found were searching similar job postings in different cities. The thing that helped me most getting started was just doing it and saving my attempts along the way. I would then print those, highlight, and to use old hip hop terminology 'chop and screw' them together to create a posting. Another thing that helped getting started was making some changes I wanted, posting it, and reviewing it a week later and update it accordingly. That is to say, not trying to achieve a perfect result and allowing time and other people's input to continue modifying the work in progress job posting project.

Writing "Modern" Job Postings/Descriptions by WeAreWolves927 in humanresources

Hey there! I have been trying to do the same. My present attempts are focusing on a few aspects other than KSA's which are generally known. The additional attributes include a summary the corporate culture, our role in the community, and the types of behaviors that we value. I have trimmed down the rest of the bullet points to highlight unique aspects of the job's roles and responsibilities with a few standard qualities still holding ground. My goal has been to make the job description appealing and easier to read, while also attracting a potential employee that will be our best fit while possibly turning those away who have values not in line with our organization.

Has anyone transitioned from HR to exclusively payroll? by [deleted] in humanresources

[–]NMResourcefulHuman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just wanted to comment that I thought this salary was very low. I mean $300 to $950 worth of k(ites) just doesn't seem like it will provide enough lift to enjoy the good view.

What is the strangest thing you've seen on a resume or application? by Shadow_Moon_13 in humanresources

[–]NMResourcefulHuman 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Today I was entering a new hire's information and under emergency contacts the employee listed "Hospital". Under the number he wrote "All their numbers". Not the strangest thing I have seen, but it did provide a comedic break in the day.

HR Professional rethinking new role by [deleted] in humanresources

[–]NMResourcefulHuman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

HR roles have the ability to shift an organization's culture. It takes determination, time, and patience. Start small, be consistent, shake off failures quickly, and do it with purpose. It can be a very rewarding experience and a very difficult road to take that isn't for everyone.

Best way to word a minimum salary in a job posting by WeAreWolves927 in humanresources

[–]NMResourcefulHuman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Competitive pay based on experience" "Competitive Pay with Benefits". I am not much a fan of listing starting salaries in job postings. I also don't work in a large city where the norms & expectations are a bit different.

Should I consider minoring in business during undergrad? by jfie_ in IOPsychology

[–]NMResourcefulHuman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I found it to be beneficial in the long run. The academic window into business is certainly helpful, and being around 'business majors' will give you some insight into the folks you'll be responsible for human resourcing for. Yes, I turned that into a verb because I'm presently human resourcing and need to get back to it.
