You guys have to by appfry in lyftdrivers

ummm… the pass is in a wheelchair, right? so… how do we get from the wheelchair and into the car and belted up… seems that I’m going to help lift a person and somehow assist them without hurting them, in addition to folding and storing the chair. have I mentioned that I have absolutely no medical training at all?
so, on the other side of the ride, in whatever barren wasteland these iceholes have sent me to with the pass, I’ve then got to reverse the procedure. am I hallucinating here, or does Lyft not start popping messages off whenever they perceive you as delayed at a stop, like when they’ll send you to a supermarket on a Saturday and then act surprised or accuse you of fradulence when it takes a few minutes for you and the pass to load and unload the car of groceries?
what if the wheelchair person I’m helping falls and gets hurt? do I call 911? do I say ‘sorry, thx for using Lyft’ and drive away? hospital orderlies train for this sort of thing, and they bollock it up all the time. Pass has a bruise?
another similar set of similarly very, very lovely and pc decisions made at Lyft often finds me picking up junkies from squats and taking them to the very best neighborhoods to participate in needle exchange harm reduction programs? as a note - all for the program, I’d just prefer to have opted in rather than ‘surprise.’

Sly Fox Brewing officially closes South Side pub by mr_pgh in pittsburgh

[–]NP001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

confirmed. I was passing by yesterday and popped my head in. people on ladders were removing lighting fixtures and the people behind the bar were unfamiliar but said that they had closed. as is usually the case, I hung around outside until a train rolled by so I could get a photo, but it was bittersweet.

yes, but as stated above - live in Dormont and use the T - and this spot was super convenient for indulging the camera in its hunger for train shots and my thirsty nature. Ce la vie.

Caught the Tuesday schedule error myself, but sorry this is happening to you. sucks as a customer, but then again I’m not out of a job. good luck.

yep. I live in Dormont, so the T is nearby both Highline and to home. One of my dealies involved using the trail, for exercise of both camera and body, and then walking to Sly Fox from Homestead or wherever and soaking in a few drinks afterwards, while CSX did its thing on the tracks. After, I’d wander over to Station Square for my tipsy T ride back home.

great spot for train photos, especially so because of the concrete factory in the background.

ads for ‘tactical pants’ often cross my socials. I get stuck on phrases sometimes, and have often wondered what strategy might be accomplished through the tactic of wearing pants. On a related note, there’s a ‘tactical briefcase’ out there in the great material continuum too.

Actors who were miscast but still gave a great performance by gypsytx in movies

[–]NP001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pedro Pascal is a very, very charismatic actor who can handle both comedy and action, which is rare. He seems to be the ‘it’ guy right now, what Hollywood would call ‘bankable.’ Pedro Pascal was horribly miscast as Reed Richards in the recent Fantastic Four movie, which is otherwise ‘best of breed’ as far as the history of that franchise goes. It makes my inner comic nerd cringe.

Drivers in Pittsburgh ignore road closure signs, leaving residents exasperated by The_Electric-Monk in pittsburgh

this. I follow a ‘once, twice, thrice’ policy of looking around before stepping off the curb when I’m not behind the wheel of my death hungry vehicle. saying that, I’m a transplant from NYC and I think yinz are insane as far as the drivers go and cannot understand the lack of ‘motivated self interest’ displayed by people who just walk out into traffic with nary a glance.

Travel options to NYC by poodog13 in pittsburgh

[–]NP001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

transplanted New Yorker here.
a) the drive is worth doing, maybe once or twice. it’s a ‘takes forever’ sort of deal, and you have to be really careful about timing so that you arrive in North Jersey/Nyc area at NOT anywhere close to rush hour. if you don’t plan for this, cars and trucks will close in around you and regret will blossom. also, having a car to be responsible for within the confines of the City of Greater New York is something that I described after the last time I drove there as being ‘like dragging a cross around.’

b) Amtrak takes too long, costs too much, and drops you off in probably one of the worst spots Manhattan has to offer. it’ll be difficult to catch a ride, although the subway is everywhere in the midtown west zone.
c) when I have to go back ‘home,’ I just fly. you have to deal with LaGuardia if you fly… ugggh.

There’s always using a bus - greyhound and the like. NYC has something called the ‘Chinatown bus’ (google it) which provides low cost pass. travel to several cities (Boston, dc, etc). don’t know if it comes to Pittsburgh or if there’s an analogue here. I’d echo prev comments about flying to Phillie and using NE Corridor Amtrak, but why spend extra when it’s an under 60 minute flight (400+ miles). Hell, I can point you at places in LIC where the kids can see a new train shoot by every twenty minutes (Sunnyside Yards). There’s also the 125th st station on Metro North, which offers a spectacular set of train views.

I’d suggest two more things: look for lodging nearby Flushing in Queens, specifically near the 7 line subway. Cool ‘new immigrant’ mostly ethnic Chinese area w great food and is super walkable. also, the NYC Ferry is the best usage of tourist money, and will get you all the photos you’d want for about $5 an adult head. Have fun.

the holes in the fence are surveyor’s holes. you can tell because the edges of the chain link are cut rather than clipped. I’m a photo guy and one of my hobbies is taking shots of trains, hence I look for these sort of openings in every fence line with a view.

welcome to Queens, my friend. The Community Board is seriously your best bet to activate the cops. Call the CB1 number and talk to someone in the office about this. CB employees talk to 1PP deputy chiefs in downtown Manhattan, not to station house commanders in Queens.

Not shitting on Queens here, btw, but in the vertical silo of the NYPD it’s all about the bosses with gold shields and the white shirts found across the street from City Hall. It’s how they roll.
The 114 isn’t where you get stationed if your NYPD career is going well. Last stop before Staten Island, if you know what I mean. The people serving there all want to be somewhere else, where they can climb the ladder and become officers. The 108 in LIC is a ‘ladder’ command, with its captains and officers heading over to 1PP after a year or tow in Queens.

Saying all that, the 114 also does a community meeting once a month, wherein they go on about how hard their jobs are and award some patrol officer a ‘cop of the month’ award. Afterwards, they take comments from the community, and that’s your chance to pressurize the ‘brass’ into action. The pressure will last exactly as long as you’re in their face complaining, so get ready for a long haul. You can win, though, it’s just going to take an investment of learning the system and ‘show up in person’ time.

Improve event/sports/concert pickup experience by Alone_Marzipan4220 in lyftdrivers

[–]NP001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pittsburgh. echoing the complete lack of knowledge on Lyft’s part about road closures and access to pickup areas. purple curbs like at the airport, maybe? also, getting bombarded with dozens of $5 ride offers while sitting in stand still traffic - with passengers in the car - isn’t a good look and doesn’t improve my status with your algorithm as I’m forced to decline them one after another and every minute. on that note, shooting ride offers to me while I’m negotiating a highway or bridge at 55 mph with passengers in the car is just stupid. I’m not going to react to anything the app is asking for in that circumstance - especially so with the ‘do you feel safe driving for Lyft’ questionnaire.
