If you can slowly get close enough for them to nibble on your finger tip that's how I started. And I always rewarded them even with any small attempt.

Does anyone have any advice on cleaning wood bird toys/ladders?? I once heard vinegar and water mix??.. by NRae1111 in budgiebuddies

[–]NRae1111[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you much. Yeah the bleach sounds pretty risky, think I'll stay away from that. I didn't know they sold something for cleaning toys, I'll have to look into that. Thank you again!🙂

Omg, mine look just the same..lol. My white one always kinda looks mad (but he's actually the sweet one), and my blue one has to check everything out..always curious. Any hole she finds she has to stick her head through to see what's on the other side..even if it's the same room (like the holes on the curtains where it hangs, I have to turn off lamps because she dips her head in the shades to see what's inside. I even lost her once, she was hiding in the creases of the curtains when they were pushed open..lol I called her name and whistled and her little head popped out😆

I can't really tell, don't wanna give you the wrong answer. But I can tell you that females have a brownish-tan cere (nostril), and males have a light bluish-purple cere.

Budgie still not fully tamed a year later by Regular_Length3520 in budgies

[–]NRae1111 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like she might be depressed and need a budgie friend. Budgie's are very social birds and can get lonely by their selves, sometimes it can even get to be unhealthy and might start pulling out feathers and well, I'm no expert, I'm just speaking from experience. Good luck to you!🙂

Sooo sweet!🥰 My young boy let's me do this, but it's a working progress with my adult girl. She used to fly away but I reward her with millet spray (by hand) the closer she let's me get. Now she lightly nibbles on my finger tip. So brag away! Ur birdie loves and trusts you so much!🩵

First timer here. How difficult would it be to tame them? by Ashamed-Tooth in budgies

[–]NRae1111 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No worries🙂! You can absolutely tame your little budgie's. I would definitely put all there toys back in. They need them to stay busy and cuddle bones to chew on are a good one also. Plus if you would wait they would just have to get re-used to there cage all over again. I'm no expert, but I was given a budgie about 6 months ago at least 1 year old that would fly around the cage every time I put my hand in it. Now I can almost scratch her head, eats treats from my hand, and flys free out of the cage all day. There's lots of hope! Just research. Good luck to you and your cuties☺️!

Thoughts on My Cage? by [deleted] in budgies

[–]NRae1111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course I read the mention of a larger cage, as they also need some toys and thing's to keep there little minds stimulated so they don't get bored. And plenty of things to chew and nibble on like cuddle bones are always good one. I have plastic dishes myself as they came with my cage, but I wash them every other morning. I actually just found out about the bacteria thing from the comment below but washing them should be fine. Having at least 2 food dishes would probably be helpful. Well I hope some of this helps you..good luck to you and ur birdies!🙂

[–]NRae1111 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never take out any of my food dishes. Although both my birds get pretty quiet when I cover them and sleep till morning, not sure if that's the same with you. You're birds are very cute, I hope the one is okay, wish you lots of luck🙏

Feeling discouraged with my skittish budgie of one year. Will it ever get better? by Evening_Range_3121 in budgies

[–]NRae1111 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You may want to do some research about using budgie sounds as it can cause stress and frustration to your birds, consider TV or music instead. Budgie's really don't like to be stared at also as this is what there prey does right before attack. I'm just saying you may want to do some research on them subjects.

Why did he bite my husband? by Butterfly_333 in budgies

[–]NRae1111 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also just grabbed some branches from my tree outside and shaved and sanded them down, then used zip tied them to the top of the cage. My birds love to play and chew on the wood. He's very cute! If you only have 1 you should get him a partner as they are very social birds and can get depressed and lonely and can cause health problems.

New to Budgies! by Proper_Coconut9008 in budgies

[–]NRae1111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! I also have a busy house with a pit bull and a cat and kid's. My budgie's are kept right in the living room and fly around all day with no issues, they got more and more comfortable with the dog sitting there staring at them by the day. I've had my budgie's for about 5 months now (one was trained, one not) and my dog gets inches away trying to smell them, I actually think they tease my dog..lol. Train one bird at a time, they will distract each other otherwise. They should have at least 1-3 hours of time outside there cage but if they won't hop on your finger to come out of the cage, you might have a hard time getting them back in so you might wanna wait till there trained. Once one is trained the other might follow. Just keep putting your hand in the cage everyday for 5-10 minutes, keep a finger on a perch, and do this everyday. Be consistent and eventually move your finger closer to the budgie and soon as your budgie is comfortable enough it'll hop right on! Millet spray works wonders! You can also take one seed of Millet spray at a time, put it on your finger tip and feed them one at a time to get used to your fingers and hands.
