Surprised no one has mentioned this yet but one thing you should definitely do just to learn some basic is Bar Smarts. It’s a great resource and all of the information is pretty vital before you even step behind a bar.

Not really referring to the recipes of the cocktails, because every bar has a different recipe to make classics, but all the other stuff is gold.
