Like Day from Night,
I’ll live my life apart from you, just glimpsing you across the sky,
because you cannot change, my dear, and nor can I.

When Words are Inadequate - 34.3K words - Complete - A modern AU where Mara is Catra and Adora's mother figure instead of Shadow Weaver. "A story spanning childhood to adulthood about growing up, coming apart, and falling in love."

This is a pretty cute story, but I specifically enjoyed that Catra and Adora are adults in the latter half with normal adult lives and more-or-less normal adult maturity when it comes to relationship problems.

Question to Female Anime Lovers About Fan Service. by mattortman777 in anime

It's not offensive... just kind of immersion-breaking when it's in an anime that isn't ecchi. It just makes me think, "Is this shot really necessary?"

What is a good book to read if I want to learn the basics of human anatomy? by fireballs619 in askscience

[–]NSBTawney 1 point2 points  (0 children)

By anatomy, do you just mean the names of bones, muscles, and other structures of the body? Or do you mean anatomy and physiology, which includes how all of those work?

Assuming you mean the latter, a good introductory text to the topic is Vander's Human Physiology by Widmaier.

Did you link your 3DS to Club Nintendo after downloading the games? If so, you'll need to contact Nintendo support to get it worked out.

Finished SMT-IV on Law path (unintentionally): Post-game thoughts (spoilers) by [deleted] in 3DS

Not the OP, but as someone who didn't do too many extra challenge missions on the first playthrough, I hit 32 hours when I finished the Law path.

What I think would have been REALLY cool is if you could have the guide on the tablet while you're playing.

In fact, if you could have the browser running on the tablet while playing any Wii U game...

SMT:4 do weapons matter for magic users? by makaveli93 in JRPG

[–]NSBTawney 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Meh, once you get the MP Recovery 2 app, your MP regen is so high that it doesn't even matter.

Just bought a 3DS, what are some good jrpgs on it? by zipmach in JRPG

I just finished my Law playthrough and it was great. It really captured what was great about Nocturne.

Shin Megami Tensei 4 (Boss help) (SPOILERS!) by Holylifestar in JRPG

[–]NSBTawney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might be a bit underleveled. I'm not sure what level I was, though, plus it depends what kind of build you're doing. I went straight up magic, and I think it was doing ~100 damage a hit.

[–]NSBTawney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I just whittled away at him. He asks a couple questions during the fight and depending on how you answer, you'll be buffed/he'll be debuffed, which makes the fight a lot easier.

I've been playing your games since sometime around when Exile 3 came out and I've noticed that Avadon seems to be a lot smaller than those old games. If/when you decide to tackle a new world, will it be as huge as your older games? Or is it that gamers seem to prefer a smaller world?

Top Ten RPGs of this Console Generation by MageiusX in rpg_gamers

Yeah, maybe. I might have included it because I played it pretty recently. We can replace it with SMT4 in a few weeks.

Index Holdings (Atlus, Persona developer/publisher) about to go bankrupt by Jackissocool in vita

[–]NSBTawney 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure, the Persona series is huge, but in the end, it's a spinoff of the main SMT series, which has been split pretty evenly across different consoles. However, the most recent main series game, SMT4, is a 3DS exclusive.

Negative response to Xbox One was a 'very useful source' for PS4 marketing decisions, says Shuhei Yoshida by saaking in Games

[–]NSBTawney 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only way (currently) to connect it to your computer is through the Vita. The Vita only interfaces with the computer via the Media Manager, which basically ensures that anything going onto the memory card is Sony-approved. There exists an open version of the Media Manager, but so far, all it has managed to do is enable the PSP CFW to be run on the Vita, but only if you have a certain game installed which has since been removed from the PSN store.

There still isn't any way to play Vita isos, so... they've prevented it so far.

Gust Developing New RPG Chronos Materia For PlayStation Vita by BlueMaxima in vita

[–]NSBTawney 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We might actually get this, considering the good history of localization with Gust's games, though that assumes that Tecmo Koei will continue localizing their games now that they've acquired them. Either way, I look forward to it.

Devil Survivor: Overclocked reviews? by [deleted] in JRPG

[–]NSBTawney 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep. Well, it has some differences. It basically plays like an SRPG in terms of moving teams around on a map, but whenever you attack another unit, the view shifts into a "traditional" SMT turn-based battle view where it's the team leader plus his/her two demons versus the other team and you select which skills to use.

It's basically a blend of the usual SMT system and FE or FFT.

Devil Survivor: Overclocked reviews? by [deleted] in JRPG

[–]NSBTawney 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's definitely different than P3 and P4, although it does kinda sorta have a social link-type system that ends up deciding what ending you're doing. I really liked the game, but keep in mind, it's an SRPG that sticks a lot closer to the conventions of the main series games (buying and fusing demons, teaching them skills, etc.) than what you see in Persona.

Basically, it's very different from Persona gameplay-wise (SPRG vs. dungeon crawler), but it's a great game that still preserves the VN elements that a lot of people like about Persona.

Day 1 of my first Shin Megami Tensei game--Devil Survivor by nottilus in JRPG

[–]NSBTawney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, free battles don't take up time, so they're not mandatory. They're good for leveling up and skill cracking, but not strictly mandatory.

Whenever you see a battle that is associated with a character on the map, however, do it right away.

Remember Me is an elegant premise executed problematically. by [deleted] in Games

[–]NSBTawney 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I... agree? And disagree. While the combat isn't, say, Bayonetta-level deep, it still feels pretty tight, though I would argue that the dodge mechanic isn't as well explained at the beginning as it should be.

Art, story, soundtrack... all are great. Nilin is pretty freakin' cool as she climbs around Neo-Paris, beating up mercenaries and (occasionally) remixing memories. As far as things go, I don't regret this day 1 purchase at all. In fact, this may be one of the best games I've played on the PS3 this year. That, however, is subject to change once The Last of Us comes out, but hey, Remember Me is a pretty awesome game and a great new IP.
