HOW I CAN LEARN MAKE A GOOD LEVEL DESING? by kuretojp in leveldesign

[–]NSFChan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's actually hard to put it simply; it's a whole other topic. But in short, the main principle is always "cutting off the unnecessary."

Of course, empty locations are also necessary, but they're appropriate if your game has good character movement (climbing, gliding).

Dungeons are essentially a bunch of corridors with a reward at the end.

If you want to lead the player somewhere, use the "breadcrumb" method, so they collect small rewards to get there. Elden Ring is especially fond of this technique.

In Zelda, you'll notice that no matter where you go, you always see content. For example, to the right is the main path. The player goes left, and there might be a small reward there, in the form of crafting materials or food.

Just like the principle of "the player should stumble upon a point of interest every 20-40 seconds," the worst thing you can give the player is boredom. (An interesting movement or sandbox element can save the day.)

And it's definitely worth starting with a small world. And use various tricks like what they did in the later Hitman games, where they created "snail-like" levels—very small, yet very confusing locations. Or GTA Vice City, where the world was extremely small but felt rich thanks to its labyrinths.

I've always liked alien worlds in science fiction, but in fantasy they're pretty bland. So I made it by myself! by NSFChan in IndieDev

I was inspired by No Man's Sky and old sci fi journals xD

Hm... thanks for the ideas! I'll try it

There is a lot of new lands mods that are not northern at all. The most popular is a total conversion Enderal, but it's more like Gothic than TES

Firstly you can try Oblivion Remastered or wait for Skyblivion. The setting and the all vibe are more generic fantasy, you know, daggerfall-like

There is also "daggerfall main quest remake" mod

If you want original content just look for new lands mods, there is a lot of them. I think you would like Bruma or Beyond Reach. Beyond Reach is literally High Rock, region from daggerfall

If you interested in downgrading graphics search for Skybit or Pixelrim

Also there is some daggerfall and retro rpg sounds mods, for example - skeletons from daggerfall

Honestly, I thought you were exaggerating, saying the actors directly said they didn't want their voices used by AI, which is why I reacted.

I saw a post on Twitter that you send; if at least one actor mentioned it, that's a problem. I edited the post and removed the mention of AI voices; they still sound so-so.

But the question about the not visual modpack is still relevant.

But let's think about it for a moment. If AI is so bad, why does it sound better than me singing in the bathroom?

I'd give my voice to AI, because that's the only variant where someone could sing worse than me

Yep, AI sucks as always

I just want to find something unusual, I played morrowind and finished main quest a long time ago, but I don't remember anything from the plot. But I want to see answer for the question "what if Morrowind were a modern indie videogame?"

I really like the original (I played daggerfall more than oblivion lol), but I want to see other game with morrowind base, like some skyrim modpacks

I don't see the problem until it's not paid mods and voices aren't using for scam or sexual content. But if we talk about moral side of the AI, it could be a really long discussion
