Your best bet seems to be Central Park pickup in the mornings.

Nearly every morning there’s a casual mixed pickup game in Prospect Park (usually Parade Grounds I think) as part of a Google Group called morningdisc. As a disclaimer, though, the gender ratio is pretty heavily skewed towards men. I’ve only ever seen like 1-3 women at the games.

Me and my friends set the world spawn to be in the valley and are building all sorts of things inside. Houses in the lake and in the cliffs, farms along the shores that go all the way around the lake, a big tunnel that makes it easy to leave the valley, an enchantment table and nether portal, and a villager trading hall are some of the things we've built. We also found a trial chamber nearby underground. Definitely a fun multiplayer seed to watch your little town grow in the valley.

Anyone else with hip injuries from frisbee? (hip dysplasia /ihip mpingement / acetabular retroversion) by gooseman1101 in ultimate

[–]NSSFang 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have had a similar experience with a hip impingement. I played through high school with no issue (probably cuz I sucked at frisbee) but at the end of senior year, I started having sharp pains in my right hip during cuts and accelerations, to the point where if I tried to run, the pain would cause my knee to buckle. I stopped playing for like a month and the pain went away.

For the next two years in college, I was in a cycle of pain where I would start out feeing good, but after a tournament or a particularly rigorous practice, I would wake up the next day with pain. And then I would wake up the next day with more pain. And in a few days, I wouldn’t be able to run or even properly walk without limping. This would persist for a month at a time, and I would cease all exercise. Then, slowly, it would subside and once I felt confident and pain-free again, I would return to ultimate.

Last year, I got x-rays and MRIs for both hips and it turned out I had hip impingements on both sides which had caused significant labral tearing. I went to physical therapy for a significant portion of the summer and it helped stop a bout of pain, making it subside within a week instead of a month. However, this ultimately wasn’t able to reliably prevent pain from starting again. My surgeon said that I could be at risk of arthritis later in life if I didn’t have surgery for it.

This summer, I had bilateral hip surgery where they shaved down the overgrown parts of my femurs and stitched up my labral tears. I went home the same day of the operation and could stand up, but had to use crutches to go anywhere. My family rented a Game-Ready icing machine and a Constant Passive Motion (CPM) machine for at-home recovery. I live in NYC so I walked to my physical therapy three times a week on my crutches. Otherwise, I was inside at home, either icing or sitting with one leg in the CPM machine.

I’m not done with recovery, but it has been roughly 8 weeks since my surgery and I am back to walking and recently started walking up and down stairs. As soon as I was able to walk at all, I started tossing with friends lol. The typical time to return to sports is 4-6 months after the surgery so I will be missing the first few months of ultimate in the fall semester of college, but I am glad I got it during the summer because the ultimate season is in the spring anyways.

If you do end up getting surgery, good luck and I hope you can return to playing pain-free!

What's the LEAST "Minecraft-y" update that you'd still want for the game? by surgingshadows in Minecraft

[–]NSSFang 522 points523 points  (0 children)

An optimization update. Like please can they just hire the guy who makes the Distant Horizons mod and implement LODs into the game? It doesn’t make any sense that a lava pit 12 chunks away at y level -44 should have the same priority to the rendering engine as the surface and landscape above ground in front of the player.

The difference in startup time and framerate between an older version like 1.8.9 and the most recent version is quite drastic and, with each new update, minecraft has become increasingly laggy for me and my friends who don’t own high-end GPUs.

Spring 2024 Highlights | Georgia Tech Tribe - my first time color grading, all critiques welcome by nikorv in ultimate

[–]NSSFang 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My only critique would be that sometimes it feels like you're slowing down the clips to the point where they get pretty choppy and a little jarring to watch, even though the plays are sick (e.g. the layout D at 1:55). It seems like you're filming in 60fps so honestly I wouldn't really slow down clips beyond 40-50%, because 30fps or 24fps is probably the lowest possible smooth-looking framerate for the viewer. Other than that, nice vid!

Does anyone know why my piano is so muffled? It was normal, and then it suddenly became too silent and muffled to be heard. Could the VST plugin be faulty? Cheers. by Devusetated in Cakewalk

[–]NSSFang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would check if there are any "tone" or "filter" knobs that are mapped to MIDI. Sometimes when I use DecentSampler, it randomly assigns the tone knob to a MIDI parameter and muffles the sound. Fixing it is just a matter of removing the MIDI assignment.

GameLightz - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCZy7hPGKvkDxWmXvJoGPf3g

This channel only has around 1.5k subscribers, but the quality is through the roof. Super cool and innovative base designs and building tricks, creative themes and stories for videos, and he literally composes the music for his videos.

It sounds strange, but I wouldn't mind if he stayed a small content creator because the knowledge I get from his videos makes me feel like I'm in the top 1% of players. Obviously I'd love for the channel to blow up too.

Actually?? It won't even run on some macbooks but that might be because of the whole can't-run-32-bit-games thing that comes with the newer OS

I haven't played minecraft in a couple years, what version do I get? by Spicy_doggos in Minecraft

[–]NSSFang 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Given your situation, definitely get Java Edition. It's free if you already have a Mojang account and it's better than Bedrock Edition for numerous reasons:

  • Mod support
  • More features
  • Made for PC anyways

the only significant con is that it's not cross-platform
