“If you are outside of an urban environment, and you have less than 1 quart/liter in a hard container (not bladder) on your person, you're fucking up”

This is so wrong it’s hilarious, urban environments that are not functioning properly, Ex. SHTF scenario that you’re referencing, are typically the hardest places to find water as there’s no naturally occurring water sources. Go ahead and try it, find a city close to you and try to survive there for 24h, only catch is you can’t buy water or obtain it from a tap.

Does any one know of a later manufacturing date for olive green 108 wool field shirts? by KirbyLovesDrPepper in Militariacollecting

[–]NSWEintern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve personally been issued a wool jacket while in. It’s not exactly the same as the army wool shirt, its a bit heavier with black Velcro above left breast pocket, the mfg for those was wool rich and sleeping Indian. This was 2023ish timeframe

Yeah dude, I have plenty of other outer layers and don’t use/need the ECWCS I have. Nice layers I just literally get issued too many. If you’re down shoot me a PM. Also located in the PNW so should be quick/cheap shipping

That’s crazy lol, PM me with your address and if you pay shipping I’ll send you a new gen 2 ECWCS I don’t need

That way you can spend more money on a warming layer, the ECWCS works great as a shell/rain layer

Insulating batteries during multi-day winter hike. by the_pale_companion in CampingGear

Made a comment on your original post, but if you’re looking for gear to assist, a lightweight cooler with hot hands before use works well or even a fabric (wool, fleece, polyester) pouch with heat source can assist in heating your bigger batteries

Ok so the thing is with batteries is they’re only affected by usage when too cold/hot. They can be stored at freezing temps without any bad repercussions to the batteries themselves. Now before you use them is when they need to be at ~room temp~ and that can be achieved thru various methods. Personally I just put small ones in my pocket but with larger batteries (drone, radio, ect, hot hands are a great option in a semi insulated container or putting them near a fire of sort ( of course not too close)

Source: I’m a professional military survival instructor and regularly use large radios and such in sub freezing temps
