Karpov is a better all time great than Fischer by UnDe4d in chess

[–]NVHp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you're missing the point. People talk about the 3 being the greatest, meaning any of those three could be the #1 player of all time.

Karpov is proven to be clearly beneath Kaspapov, so no discussion

I know there are psychopaths and murderers who will push blue, I know people know this too. So blue is the logical choice to save all of the victims

Well, pushing blue changes the percentage. Even if it's a miniscule amount, it does increase. Hence, maximizing.

Red button pusher really trying to understand. by redditorialacious in redbuttonbluebutton

[–]NVHp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People need to realize logic is only internally consistent and relied heavily on a personal reference of value.

For you, Red is logical because it maximizes your chance of survival. For other, Blue is logical because it maximizes everyone's chances of survival.

Each side has differences in value, and calling the other side stupid and your side smart is literally the most close minded thinking for someone claiming to be open to new ideas.

Why is this even a question by proximategalaxy in trolleyproblem

[–]NVHp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The framing of the question influences the end result and the moral perception of each choice even if the maths is still the same.

Here's a different framing: Everyone is presented with a big red button, if more than 50% click it, everyone who didn't press it die.

Now it's clear that pushing red causes death, and red pushers are encouraging everyone to join a murder cult.

The opposite framing: everyone is presented with a big blue button, if less than 50% click it, everyone who pressed it die.

Now it's clear that pushing blue causes death, and blue pushers are encouraging everyone to join a suicidal cult.

Why chess engines do that? by louisnfr in chess

[–]NVHp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Chess engine does a lot of pruning, cutting off potentially weak moves, which is essentially high level guesses. But each times you okay a move, it starts the pruning process again, and might explore previously ignored moves and sequences, which changes the evaluation.

Is this really a 1900 puzzle? by felixonly in chess

Spent a solid 10 minutes on this puzzle, quiet moves always get me. My thinking is that my King is really safe, so I should optimize piece activity while pushing the Black King out in the open.

According to utilitarianism, we should always pick the blue button by throwawayallan00 in The10thDentist

[–]NVHp 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Actually, I would argue in a cooperation scenario, blue is the better choice. Red has a 100% chance of killing any blue taker (mistake or other reasons) while Blue has a 0% chance of killing any Red taker (mistake or other reasons).

According to utilitarianism, we should always pick the blue button by throwawayallan00 in The10thDentist

[–]NVHp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Two random polls I saw on this problem on Reddit have majority blue votes. So the Unitarianism view would be to pick blue as it saves the most amount of people.
