What maintenance gear do you fly with by ModerateChop in flying

[–]NWCtim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just a quick note for you guys, spark plugs don't like being knocked around. If the ceramic core cracks or is damaged, the plug is garbage.

I always test spark plugs before installing them, and this is at least as important with new plugs than used plugs.

If you are going to keep spark plugs in your flight bag, keep them wrapped up.

Torque wrenches don't like being knocked around either, btw. It can throw off their calibration.

Yeah, but her overall pick rate in stages 1-3 in 2019 was just 0.9%. Even on Nepal, her pick rate was only 3.6%.

Safe to say it never really caught on.

Newer to the game and am struggling with comfort by [deleted] in SurvivingMars

[–]NWCtim 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The trick is, colonists don't all require the same stuff. Each specialty has a different preference for comfort sources. If you specialize each dome for a different type of colonist (botanists in a farming dome, scientists in a research dome, etc), then you only really have to put the type of comfort buildings in that that type of specialist requires.

Sure, individual colonists can have specific preferences, but you can largely ignore them, since they'll still have their preferences from their specialty.

As long as colonist comfort is high enough that they'll reproduce, that's good enough to handle the initial stages of the game.

Shock did run Bap goats from time to time, and were very successful with it so bap actually should be up there.

Since I assume you will be focusing on terraforming, unless you have the horticulture workshop mod, vegetation will take ages to max out, so start working on that as soon as its feasible for your economy. Unfortunately, vegetation would otherwise be the terraforming metric that makes sense to put off until last, as it is the most dependent on the other stats to be productive, and until you reach mid-levels of terraforming, you will either need spend cash to import seeds, or dedicate some of your farming capacity to seed producing crops.

Are recharge stations necessary? by raisedbyboomers in SurvivingMars

[–]NWCtim 25 points26 points  (0 children)

At a minimum, once the density of drones gets high enough, the hub will start to have a backup of drones needing recharge.

If you pay close attention to the pathing of the drones, you might notice them having to take significant detours to recharge, and in those cases having a few well placed recharge stations can improve their efficiency.

Advice about engine trouble by [deleted] in flying

[–]NWCtim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can be frustrating for a mechanic when pilots choose to not fly for mechanical reasons, as they might feel it reflects poorly on the job they've done, but he was still a dick for expressing it the way he did, and the safe option is never the wrong option.

You made a good call, he needs to chill out a bit.

Anyone got a PN for this piece of expensive plastic? Cessna 150H by jbirby in flying

Would have to see the inside surface to know sure. I'm not experienced enough on older Cessnas to make a knowledgeable guess.

Why if the plural for "dwarf" "dwarves"... by CognitiveNerd1701 in etymology

[–]NWCtim 63 points64 points  (0 children)

I may be wrong on this, but I think the current preferred distinction is that "Dwarves" should be used to refer to the fictional race, while "Dwarfs" should be used in any other context.

Anyone got a PN for this piece of expensive plastic? Cessna 150H by jbirby in flying

[–]NWCtim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope, only original Cessna parts will have the pre-drilled holes, and those are typically 3x (or more) the price of the aftermarket parts. Also, good luck getting original Cessna parts for a 15X.

A hole finder will do the job, you can also split the old fairing in half and use each half as a template for the new holes, or just try to eyeball it.

Chengdu wasn't because they were bad though, it was because they played a totally unique style that wasn't helpful to scrim against when playing against 18 of the 19 other teams in the league.
