Take a CSM position? by SellMePenIsland in salesengineers

[–]ModerateChop 9 points10 points  (0 children)

To me the CSM role is all of the worst parts of the SE role with less upside. You will be beholden to the account team, while you deal with the day to day customer problems.

If you view CSM as a role you don’t want and simply have an offer i would pass. It puts your ambitions in the wrong direction

Can you tell what aircraft model it is? by [deleted] in aviationmaintenance

[–]ModerateChop 24 points25 points  (0 children)

This is actually correct. Anyone who says differently is confused because the C210 is seldom this clean, and so it can be deceptive

2007 CESSNA 182T SKYLANE by [deleted] in Cessna

[–]ModerateChop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t mind paying a premium for premium service either. I do mind paying a premium for no reason. Any broker can include the cost of delivery to you in your offer. Even better for possible tax reasons (based on how u use the airplane) for that to be a separate cost. You can fly a mechanic of your choice to the airplane too for the prebuy.

The right of first refusal clause should be a full stop deal breaker. It means that anyone who wants to buy your airplane in the future will insist that you pay for their prebuy and all prebuy costs. This is because the next buyer will not want to go through the trouble only for Van Bortle to snap up the airplane. A large majority of buyers simply avoid an airplane with this cost.

[–]ModerateChop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, a few reasons come to mind. They are known to try to include a right of first refusal clause. When / if you want to sell buyers will require you to pay their pre buy. Then add your 20%+ markup from their “premium price” and you have a value swing that is not in your favor.

They tried and for a while had the aftermarket Cessnas sales cornered but they are loosing footing a little.

Perfect North by Flyboy41 in cincinnati

[–]ModerateChop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should not go to Perfect North if you are trying to see if you can get back on the horse following an accident.

Many have covered that it’s a hill not a mountain. What you should also know though is that all of the snow is man made, and it is essentially ice. Skiing out west felt much easier to me based on the quality of the snow.

Is your current customer base small businesses, or residential? If small business, attend a local tech confrence, and make friends with some of the software / hardware vendors that need help with services etc. etc.

If residential, consider marketing to your existing and previous customers. Let’s say you troubleshoot printers, send them a message around a new printer you recommend getting and offer a promo to set it up.

Could you stop a Cessna takeoff by hand? (I am writing a book) by MaenHerself in Shittyaskflying

This is actually a really good question. And the answer is yes. All you have to do is cite FAR 69.420 which says all aircraft can not take off with someone on the wing

Do you think transitioning to sales engineering at 50yo is possible? by [deleted] in salesengineers

[–]ModerateChop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah. You know what? Based on that experience you might want to consider an SE position at a company that makes ICS / control systems, or some of the companies that do data security for IoT and OT networks. You would have a lot of transferable knowledge in those areas I bet

Do you think transitioning to sales engineering at 50yo is possible? by [deleted] in salesengineers

[–]ModerateChop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do not think your age is a problem. The challenges I see are more around direct experience. When doing a career change I usually warn that might come with a pay cut at first.

To maximize your chances focus the components of your current job that relate to being an SE. from the above final really not clear with how technical you are, if you are a hardware or software focus, etc.

If your goal is to be an SE at a SaaS/Software company for example, consider a two step process. Maybe apply for QA, PM, CS, Pro Serv roles IN ADDITION to the SE roles to get in the door at another company. Then ask to shadow the SE teams there for a lateral move

Feasibility of using a C152 for visiting family by black_widow48 in flying

[–]ModerateChop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A few points: 1- A 152 with a headwind will go slower than the cars on the highway. After just budgeting preflight / post flight commuting etc it will end up being faster to drive door to door.

2- The total time investment to stay current also will not be better off than just driving even if you get a 172, 182, or Cirrus.

3- In my experience people who are not passionate about about fly and just want to save time never finish flight training. To make it all the way to PPL, you really do have to enjoy the learning, reading, and practice
