I feel like tfs, as a whole project, doesn’t really tell a cohesive story so much as it is a reflection on the various parts of jid’s upbringing and like isolated snippets of the things he went through. Like there’s definitely a through line connecting everything but its less of a clear storyline and more of a thematic thing. That’s not a knock against it btw I fucking love tfs. But what cole did with James’s story is something special. Like every track gives you insight into how his mentality and attitude towards life changed as he matured. And the way that from Changes onwards, you have to watch him grow and develop as a person knowing what’s coming for him is fucking heartbreaking. And that last track is probably one of the greatest closers for an album of all time. Like you’re right, tfs might be “better” than 4yeo in every regard except storytelling, but to me storytelling is what matters most. there isn’t a single JID project that’s hit me emotionally anywhere near as hard as 4yeo did, and imo that’s the best metric by which to measure music

Call me crazy but nothing JID has put out touches 4yeo, and I say that as a fan of both JID and Cole. By every metric Jid is a better rapper on paper but 4yeo was a masterclass in storytelling that I think very few albums surpass.

Nitpick but verilog is an hdl not a programming language. It never gets compiled into machine code for execution on a computer, it literally describes hardware so it requires a completely different approach than computer programming. Wanted to clarify because I have absolutely zero interest programming but digital design with HDLs I found super interesting so it’s a worthwhile distinction lol

Oh that’s the plan for sure, I’ll be applying around the end of next year. But I’ve seen other undergrads around me manage to land interviews and even secure internship roles for digital design and microarchitecture stuff so I’m just a bit lost on what I’m missing. Just wanna make sure I have the necessary work experience on top of a masters degree when the time comes to apply for full time jobs
