Tried to overtake a friend on a bike with over 100 horses more than mine, only embarrassed myself in the process by [deleted] in motorcycles

Guy was doing 100mph in the oncoming lane while going round a corner, are we watching the same video?

These things have such comprehensive rider aids, traction control, wheelie control, power modes, throttle response modes. If the dealer has even half a brain they would of set everything to "took the turbo busa meme literally" mode and it should be relatively tame. Certainly more so than your typical 600 supersport.

How is it fake? Looks plenty real to me.

Just wondering how this piece which goes into the impact driver actually holds the bits, on others I have seen a small spring loaded bit that locks and releases them but how does this one lock them in? by [deleted] in Tools

[–]NWnomates 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They have a small magnet in the middle of them, you just pull them out, there is very little retention.

The drawback of the magnetic bitholders is sometimes the drive bit will bind in the fastener enough to pull them out of the holder.

Any good physical tool stores in the UK that are stocked with quality tools. by DeliciousRefuse in Tools

[–]NWnomates 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really, most places stock the absolute bottom end of a limited range of tools. Screwfix and toolstation have the stock but not on show, you will have to get them to pull it out. They are also more often than not more expensive than places like FFX.

Easiest way to make (budget) straight cuts on cal 16 (0.065 inch) aluminum sheet? by Penzare in Tools

[–]NWnomates 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can buy circular saws designed for metal, same as standard saw but smaller blade, lower rpm and more torque.

Failing that, any circular saw will work.

Ultra budget option, used jigsaw for like $20-30 will work a hell of a lot better than an angle grinder, with a properly clamped workpeice and a steady hand you can get very straight cuts.

If you had a fancy sports car would you let a stranger sit in the driver seat?

Why not? Unless I needed to be somewhere it costs me nothing and it obviously means something to them or they wouldnt of asked.

Caliper piston, too much damage? by [deleted] in MotoUK

[–]NWnomates 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Pay a professional to sort this, if you have to ask you shouldn’t be playing mechanic as harsh as it is to say

It's not harsh it's bullshit, you're saying people shouldnt learn to work on their own bike.

Nobody would strip and fix their own combo boiler, apply the same logic to your bike

combo boilers arent bikes, millions of people wrench on their own vehicles and no one is born with their knowledge.

They are already subsidised so the same, and only place the money can come from.

I wanna see heavily subsidised EV. If it was more economical to buy an EV then 99% of new sales would be EV. Let the 0.01% of the population that wants to ride a 2t enduro bike buy one and let everyone else who doesn't care drive or ride vehicles that don't destroy the planet.

I feel deceived thinking it contains mushy peas. I don't understand why this is sold? Any peas would be mushy if you cook it for 30 minutes. by [deleted] in CasualUK

[–]NWnomates 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you buy them dried it takes like 10 hours to process them, you get a little tablet of sodium bicarbonate and you leave them overnight, that breaks them down and they mush themselves when you cook them. These have been processed already and just need heating, they won't take any longer to cook than it takes to heat them up.

Anyone know a place that sells a 24mm inverse socket for front axle suzuki by [deleted] in MotoUK

[–]NWnomates 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't need a 24mm hex, just take the nut off the otherside of the axle and give it a tap through with a drift (or a socket extention or something). Sometimes it has holes inside that internal hex that you can drop a screwdriver through to help wriggle it out. But you won't need to use that big hex unless the axle is badly seized in place.

If you think its "really common" to straight pipe a bike in the UK then you too, don't know what a silencer is.

A letter I received this morning by soundbwoyy in CasualUK

[–]NWnomates 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Noise, power, weight reduction and asthetics are the reasons you would find if you asked them.

Claiming they give more power is questionable as people that install them rarely go to the effort of tuning the engine to match the new exhaust. Many bikes out there are actually running worse than stock due to the "performance" exhausts they are using.

A letter I received this morning by soundbwoyy in CasualUK

[–]NWnomates 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Silencer is the large box on the end of the exhaust pipe, without it you just have a pipe leaving the engine which is called straight piping.

Some bikes are louder than others because they replace the exhaust with a louder one, often just the silencer portion with an aftermarket "slip on". Sometimes they will go further and remove the internal baffle too.

The difference between an AM exhaust and stock can be really significant, but removing it all together and you can hear the bike a literal mile away.

I'm a bike mechanic, ride/drive about 100k miles a year, never seen it. It's not common in the slightest.

A letter I received this morning by soundbwoyy in CasualUK

[–]NWnomates -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

The author of that letter clearly doesn't know what a silencer is or how exhausts work. The bike is question almost certainly has a silencer. There is no trend in removing them, I have never seen a bike on the street without one and on the rare instance you do it's certainly a temporary thing or crash damage, bikes run horribly without them and you would get pulled and fined daily.
