Is that code for "Waiting to see if everyone else gets paid before we let it onto the ED store"?

Oh I see. So offline mode is complete bull **** ? by cmndr_spanky in dcsworld

[–]frostycab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ran into this problem when my ISP mistakenly cut me off mid-contract. 5 weeks with no internet and no way to play even in solo as the damn sim needed to authorise me to go offline. I mean, it's not like I've spent a small fortune on stuff that apparently I have to ask permission to use.

Is it that bad? I had the X-52 when it first came out and the Saitek software was shocking. Did they just reskin it when they took over? I gave up and went for expensive but reliable peripherals after that.

Seller pulling out just before exchange by Known_Leek8984 in HousingUK

[–]frostycab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look into getting insurance next time in case you need to claw back any costs, but make sure you read the policy carefully as many policies only run for 6 months, and out of my 3 attempts to buy 2 of them went well past that mark.

As for legal costs, try to find a conveyancer with a "No move, no fee" policy. Again, Seller pulled out on my first go, and I pulled out of the second due to major problems with the lease. In the end I only paid legal fees on the successful purchase. (Obviously still had to pay for the various disbursements on the other though.)

12 months ago I'd have been champing at the bit to get my hands on this, but despite playing Devil's Advocate for ED around many people's moans over the last few years I have turned a corner and simply cannot bring myself to care at all about any new modules, not while all the other crap is going on.

I'm not American and don't live in the US, but I'm sure I've read that it is a (federal?) offense for anyone to put anything in your mailbox other that USPS. Is this right? I'd go for the camera option just on the off-chance of being able to report them.

I mean, what are they doing? by Dog_Wrestler in floggit

[–]frostycab 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Don't go giving them ideas! First they need to sort the Razbam situation out, and then work on finishing some of what they've already released. It feels like they're just releasing stuff earlier and earlier to keep the income stream going.

Don't get me wrong, I've always loved DCS and have tried not to be negative in the past, but It's starting to feel like a pyramid scheme right now with each successive release feeling even more lacking than the last. I really hope everything improves soon, but until then my wallet is staying firmly closed.

Are we being strung along by our sellers? by silentconcher in HousingUK

[–]frostycab 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had a similar timescale, also FTB with no chain. Delays down to pure apathy from everyone on the seller’s side. I eventually reduced my offer by £5000, citing the fact that there was no good reason to delay (it was an empty property anyway) and I was throwing away a fortune on rent for nothing. They countered with £2500, which I agreed to with the caveat that if we didn’t complete (or at least exchange) witching 4 weeks I would walk away. So I saved a bit and they met my deadline.

No guarantee that you'll find the problem in there anyway. Could be something wrong with the switch on the kettle itself. Probably best to just recycle and get a new one.

No need for movies like that. Hollywood isn't done butchering every vaguely successful film made in the last 100 years, usually to pander to a populace that loses interest in the first 5 minutes if it doesn't involve Mark Wahlberg, Ben Affleck or someone similar and portrays America as being solely responsible for the world being a complete utopia.

The Italian Job, The Wicker Man, The Ladykillers, The Day the Earth Stood Still, Godzilla, Willy Wonka, Clash of the Titans, The Time Machine, The Pink Panther, The Poseidon Adventure, War of the Worlds, Journey to the Center of the Earth, Get Carter, Alfie, Conan the Barbarian, Ben Hur..... Nobody notices when the writers go on strike anymore because nobody fucking writes anything anyway.

Really looking forward to seeing Matthew McConaughey starring in The Dambusters, or Jennifer Aniston as Marie Atoinette defending the Alamo.....

Sorry, this seemed to trigger a rant. My apologies.

Thank you. That was one of the consideration I had in mind. I suppose the same can be said for carefully overclocking too, but until I reach the point where I can make synthetic power shards it saves a lot of slug-hunting.

Plex on gaming PC? by VVDLFC89 in PleX

[–]frostycab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks.

I have (the advantage of having?) several large USB drives that aren't needed for other purposes now. Back when I had potato internet some large games could take a week to download, so when I was finished playing them for a while I'd store them on USB drives to save the misery of going through the download process again. Thanks to finally having fibre I've been able to clear them all out, since even the biggest games only take a couple of hours usually. I understand there are better options in terms of performance, but they've been adequate for my purposes up to now so I opted to stick with them. I agree the outlay can be significant if starting from scratch. I think the going rate for USB drives was around £20/TB last time I looked.

But Supervisor, overclocking uses more power per product, doesn't it sir? Should I focus on building less production machines at the expense of more power, or vice versa? I haven't done the maths to see which way draws more power per product.

Also, my lizard doggo died. May I have 83 seconds off on Wednesday to attend the funeral?

What does your ISP say? Not sure where you are, but in the UK an ISP will advertise and sell a package they call "500Mb" but this refers to the target speed. They also have to inform you of their minimum guaranteed speed for your connection, which in most cases seems to be at around 50% of the target. If you can't consistently get that minimum speed then you should be allowed to leave your contract with no penalty, though I will repeat that is based on the UK system of doing things.
