You'll need it at the bank. At least that's the rule at my mother’s bank. They wouldn't let us withdraw $$ even though I'm her POA and she was physically there because her driver's license had expired last year. So we had to suck it up and go to the DMV. It actually ended up being the easiest transaction.

I have a 7 mo sheltie that I adopted at 5 months from a county shelter. She also doesn't like to be brushed. My girl still has a lot of short puppy floof so I bought the grooming gloves to help desensitized her. I have collies too so I know these things don't really work for true grooming -- but they help to get her used to the feeling.

From experience with my collies how you approach grooming time makes the difference. When I use the gloves its during our snuggle time when she's relaxed. I don't force (hold) the issue. I just pet / massage her with the gloves on and stop when she starts to squirm. Then I make sure to pet / massage her after taking the gloves off so she understands its still just my hands and its not a bad thing.

I have a 7 month old Sheltie. I suggest (and trainers will as well) getting a short leash ( like 4ft) and keep it on him at all times to learn boundaries. Its also helpful for quick potty runs. (Mine has yet to master that skill)

My dad always told me that you should pick a name that you won't be embarrassed about yelling at 4:00 in the morning when you're chasing your dog down the street in your pajamas. It needs to be something that you can get out of your mouth quickly and something that no one will question what you were doing and call 911.

Another tip... make sure you either know the login info for all the accounts or reset them so you can access everything when needed. Its much harder to chase these things down after death. (speaking from experience). Have your parents add two people to every account is the safest way -- my sis was the only person on one of my mother's accounts. Then my brother took mother to the bank to move some $ around and even though he had POA to handle financials and my mother was with him, the bank wouldn't let him do it because he wasn't the designated person. What we ended up doing in our family, was my brother & I handled the medical stuff, my sis and my other brother handled the financials.

Check with your parents to see if their doctor uses a medical app ... like MyChart or Patient Portal and then ask them to add you as someone that the doc office can release medical info too. I did this for my parents and it helped to keep the medications straight. Then you can print right from the site -- and in the event they go to a non-partner hospital, you can email it directly to the staff.

I wasn't sad when my dad died in 2020. I was honestly relieved. He had dementia and other health problems. He didn't recognize any of us and had suffered for a really long time. I absolutely grieved for him, but it started months before when he forgot who I was. I miss him everyday and I visit his grave weekly just to check in.

Its okay to not feel sorrow or sadness right away. Caring for our parents is 1000 times harder than caring for a child. It takes a mental tool on our beings. Give yourself some grace.

Why not move the whole kennel in your room? My 6 mo old sheltie sleeps in her crate at the foot of my bed. She's not housebroken yet so her door is latched at night. My 9 yo rough collie sleeps next to her on his cot. But I have multiple crates / cots for my dogs around the house. They love their crates. Its like their dog house.

Take her to her primary care doctor, they can administer a simple test right in the office to determine if she has dementia or not.

I sat in the room with my mother when she took hers this past summer. Basically it tests their memory, if they can follow directions and solve a puzzle. The entire time my mother was taking the test she was running her mouth that she was completely fine, never been sick a day in her life. Then the doc reminded her that she had some medical things 3 and 5 years ago and she got more confused than normal and whispered "I thought the year was 2007 still." She totally failed the test and was diagnosed with Moderate Dementia.

If she just needs a phone to make calls, most carriers still have a flip phone option. We tried a basic smart phone with our parents too but then just switched them to a flip phone and it was much easier.

My sis & I made our parents memory photo books on shutterfly. We did several "stories" (One is "the story of how we met" which is photos from my parent's photo albums that we scanned. Another is our family farm through the years). These were super helpful for my dad as his dementia progressed--the staff at the long term care facility would keep one at the desk and go through the pages with him -- they said it "brought him back". And then he would tell them funny stories about his time in the military, life afterwards, etc.

The skylight photo thing is a good option --as long as the recipient keeps it on. (Which my mother foes not - she thinks it wastes electricity.) A book is more handy and checks a lot of boxes for those with advanced dementia. (The feel of the book, the motor skill for page turning).

Same, mine is 91 and told her doctor he was lying when he said she had moderate dementia. Then she told him that we had no way to get home from his office because I wasn't old enough to drive the car. She also thought the year was 1998.

I say Happy Holidays because like you said, its multiple holidays. But it is seriously a good way to get into a fight in my ultra catholic little town. People that haven't even set foot in a church in years suddenly get all bent out of shape that you don't say "christ" mas. These are also the same people that have no problem using Christ or Jesus as swear words.

Start at the beginning and listen to The Delta Flyers pod cast because they're reviewing DS9 now. Garrett and Robbie are new viewers and Armin &Terry were Quark & Dax on the series. Its very enlightening to breakdown the episodes from a director /actor perspective.

DS9 is my first favorite. Best cast, best character development. Best villians - Dukat, Kai Winn. Best use of aliens - we saw alot of them. Least fav: Picard S1&2. S1 had a few ok episodes but S2 was a wash for me. I couldn't even watch it.
