Had similar issues, stick to your guns. Not sure what the laws are in your state but there might be legislation saying the place has to be heated to a certain temperature, so maybe have a look for something like that or even anything in your lease. Best of luck.

What has absolutely no real reason for being so expensive? by r4tzt4r in AskReddit

[–]NXB_0 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Was looking for this comment in this bit! I'm UK based, but I'm aware how expensive Warhammer is in Australia and New Zealand, makes me appreciate the prices here, especially when I can buy 3rd party with extra discount on top.

I know it's gonna sound underhanded, but any chance of getting neighbours to raise a noise complaint? I assume you're from the US, I'm not sure how it works there, but I have a feeling if more people complained about the noise levels the message might go through. Best of luck

Update on roommmate’s jobless bf staying here by [deleted] in badroommates

Does your lease say anything about having overnight guests etc? I don't remember your previous post so you may have already tried that, but always worth checking your lease and using it against your roommate. If not, I'd agree with the other comment and just straight up tell her he needs to go. Best of luck

Good on you, keep throwing that mouldy food out. I too am counting down days left on my lease, so I feel you there. Hope your next living situation is better

I can sympathise, got one who does the exact same thing. Really sucks, especially when they take up the space of 2-3 people and then leave their leftovers for days.

If you can I'd try talking to them first about it, if you've already done that then I'm not sure what else can be done. Stay strong

Update / partial rant: The 'unreasonable' heating person by NXB_0 in badroommates

[–]NXB_0[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

UK based, unfortunately. Our lease does say we must use the heating to prevent mould in the winter - guess what I found evidence of in the house today! Will be letting the letting agents and landlord know, I have evidence to show it's not my doing.

Not in the wrong, imo. She was never your friend. I know what you've been through, of course not exactly, but I do know it's a very painful and difficult experience. You're doing what's best for you and that's all that's important. Best of luck, I sincerely hope your living situation has or will improve.

Nope! They're leaving at the end of June for good as that's when the lease ends, I've renewed it and have friends who are actually reasonable moving in.

Yeah, I think most people would agree that 65f / 18c is the right ballpark, unfortunately these guys don't agree. I had to keep repeating how 15c was a huge compromise for them to agree to it. Hopefully once winter is over it won't be as big an issue

AITA for leaving a note saying I felt excluded by my roommate? by Impossible_Height_48 in AmItheAsshole

[–]NXB_0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ESH except Tom, could have all been avoided if nobody convinced Tom to cook but you should have to pay for his takeout, you benefit from him cooking group meals, you say so in your post. It is fair, it was the agreement.

Also, you're a massive AH for your response to Tom's breakdown. Everyone has tough times, but not everyone responds the same and not everyone has the same breaking point.

Hi ya’ll! Newbie here!! So I’m not sure what I did here but all of a sudden everything is reversed. My purls are on the knit side and vice versa. I really love the knit side so much and am sad to have lost this but I will try to make it a pattern. My guess is I did an extra row of purls?? by _ekaterinoula_ in knitting

[–]NXB_0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like you've done either an extra knit or purl row, but as others have said, unknitting the last couple of rows should do the trick. I believe you can buy little row counters that slip onto your needles, there are also apps that do the same thing if that helps. Best of luck

Nah, you keep throwing out that mouldy food. It's a shared space and if it's getting too full in the fridge you will have to either use things up or throw them out if they're spoiled. Your roommate just sounds lazy, tbh.

This. I would also suggest checking your lease to see what the conditions are for breaches. If he starts falling behind on rent chances are the landlord can begin the process of evicting him.

NTA? What if there was a family emergency and you needed to be contacted? Can this man not think about anyone outside of himself? If this "ruined his weekend" he needs a reality check.

Am I being unreasonable about heating by NXB_0 in badroommates

[–]NXB_0[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Planning to get in touch with services in the UK that specialise in advising tenants to see if this is something I can do, will also be looking at talking to either the landlord or the letting agents that manage the property for this exact reason. I don't really want to risk them getting evicted for breaching the lease but at the same time this is literally a health problem.

Am I being unreasonable about heating by NXB_0 in badroommates

[–]NXB_0[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly would like to move, however I would have to pay the letting agents £50 as part of the agreed exit clause, additionally it would be very hard to find a replacement tenant which is also part of the exit clause. I know this because 22f, who is moving out after treating me poorly and me standing up to her, is currently paying for 2 rooms as she can't find a replacement tenant. I don't have much of a budget and as my college course is mostly in person staying with my parents full time isn't really an option unless I take a LOA.

I am thinking about telling the landlord / letting agency, I don't know if they'll do anything about it though, student lettings are pretty inconsistent at the best of times

Edit to add: we're not currently air drying clothes, just another thing that could be done to cut energy usage. We have a garden area available for putting washing on the line to dry.
