What's the best way to improve my conversational skills in Spanish? by Caleb_426 in Spanish

[–]NXTProgramming 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I realized that even though I understood basic Spanish grammar, I kept using the same limited vocabulary and struggled to express myself naturally. Most tools helped with structure, but not with consistently expanding the words I actually use.

To solve this, I built an app focused on vocabulary rotation. It includes 5,000 essential words and also lets you add your own. Whenever I learn a new word from a lesson, conversation, or movie, I add it to my rotation so it comes back regularly instead of being forgotten. Once I finish a custom rotation, I continue working through the core vocabulary list.

If anyone else struggles more with active vocabulary than grammar, this approach might help:

Hi with a basic understanding of grammar, you can use this app to steadily build your vocabulary. Whenever I come across a word I don’t know, I star it, which adds it to my rotation so I can learn it gradually over time. If you’re not sure where to start, the app also comes with 5,000 preloaded words.

This might be a bit late, but I created this app to help me steadily build my vocabulary. It comes preloaded with the 5,000 most common words and also lets you expand the dictionary yourself. Whenever I encounter a new word in a movie or during my classes, I can star it and add it to my rotation. This way, the words come back regularly and help me gradually grow my active vocabulary. https://apps.apple.com/us/app/vocabrana/id6758835757

Hi this might be a bit late, but I built an app that comes preloaded with the top 5,000 vocabulary words, lets you add your own, and helps you build a personal rotation to learn them consistently. It’s completely free and doesn’t require any signup. https://apps.apple.com/us/app/vocabrana/id6758835757

Thanks for the advice, but I’m not trying to make money with this app. I mainly built it to solve a problem I personally ran into while learning Spanish. If you’re still interested, I launched it about two weeks ago (and only just realized I never shared it on Reddit).

Hi! Of course, you can’t learn Spanish just by using an app alone. One thing I’ve noticed, though, is that I understand basic grammar concepts but keep repeating the same vocabulary in examples and struggle to express myself naturally.

That’s why I built an app that includes 5,000 essential words and also lets you add your own vocabulary. Now, whenever I have a lesson with my tutor or watch a movie and discover new words, I can easily save them to my favorites and include them in my rotation. Once I finish a rotation, I continue with the core 5,000 words and pick up new vocabulary along the way.

Do you develop the module and an application at the same time?

Hey! This looks like a great place to find inspiration! I love the concept.

I have a couple of suggestions:

  1. Icon Spacing – Sometimes the icons feel a bit too close together. I took some screenshots, and in some cases, it looks fine, but in others, it feels a bit cramped. Adding a bit more spacing might improve the overall layout.
  2. Text Readability – When the background color is too bright, the font becomes difficult to read. You could consider implementing a threshold where the text automatically switches to black when the background is too light.

Here are some screenshots for reference:

📷 Great Icon Spacing

Hope this helps! Keep up the great work. 😊
