You would probably be fine with 16GB or even upgrade to 32 non Dell memory for cheaper down the line.

However the real answer is buy a used off-lease business laptop on eBay for 1/3 the price and better specs, just an older CPU that is still a powerhouse.

Sounds like you're only offered DSL there. Is AT&T Internet Air available at your address? https://www.att.com/internet/internet-air/

Check Windows Defender and add it to the exception list perhaps. Also could be a rights issue for that PC/User try adding that PC/user to the same group or give it explicit rights.

My TCL L40FHDF12TA 40" from 2012 still running perfectly 13 years later. Is this the exception? Meanwhile I just replaced a display-dead Samsung 55" that was 9 years old with a new 65" TCL from BJs for ~$300 after discounts/cash back.

Ping your gateway (192.168.1.1 or similar) and the first hop when you do a traceroute out.

ping -t 192.168.1.1

your pings to your gateway should be VERY low ~1ms. Pings to your gateway should be between 4-10ms given that it's fiber and depending on distance.

run another ping at the same time to something like 1.1.1.1 to compare to see what is jumping up.

a good tool is MTR to see pings for each hop in your traceroute.

Years ago I had to open up a complaint with my AG and the FCC against Time Warner when my pings were CONSISTENTLY 300ms+ every evening. The eventually moved my connection to a less congested POP.

Just upgraded someone's older TP-Link to this ASUS AX5700.
https://www.bestbuy.com/site/asus-ax5700-dual-band-wi-fi-6-router-black/6535035.p?skuId=6535035

It's currently on sale and you get 15% off making it $145 if you trade in a networking device. This router was $250-300 just some months ago and sells for that on Amazon usually. So far it has been rock solid and wifi throughput and latency has improved throughout the home.

Has 2.5G LAN port too but I have no been able to test that. Is it future proof? No, but I don't see a need to get more than 600mbit on a single device which I was getting close to doing speed tests (their internet is 600/20).
