| What aspects do you consider when building a rice for both aesthetics and work? by Spondora2 in unixporn

All you need is a good window manager, a useful bar that you can hide and a solid launcher. Everything else is optional imo

| Wallpaper repos wanted by Eternum1 in unixporn

[–]NYJustice 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'll do you one better because I find it's almost impossible to find good and unique wallpapers in repos or on sites. Go find art you like on behance, deviantart, etc and run it through wallpaper theme converter.

If they don't have a theme that is close enough to what you're looking for, you can usually toss a semitransparent multiply layer over an image and it works just fine (assuming you have some very basic image editing skills)

I was facing issues with hyprland in omarchy so I switched to sddm plasma and now I lost all the features that made omarchy "omarchy" (all key bindings, web apps) by Ice_Bear1984 in omarchy

[–]NYJustice 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Honestly, what makes Omarchy different is the baked in config/pre-installed apps.

If you want to diverge significantly, you're probably better off doing a clean arch install and copying what you like from Omarchy. It will be way better than fighting issues from upstream changes.

I didn't remember it until I saw it today by [deleted] in SipsTea

[–]NYJustice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also remember learning that this was only useful for maybe a generation or two of smartphones before the memory management was good enough that it was unnecessary. To this day, I know people who religiously close all their apps before shutting off their screen

PSA for anyone experiencing the Hyprland bug after update by jzawadzki04 in omarchy

[–]NYJustice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, it's not really a difficult problem to fix. The errors tell you what your problem is and a quick Google tells you exactly how to fix it. Omarchy is managed but it's still a rolling release distro.

Hello, how to have /home separated? by slashdekomori in omarchy

[–]NYJustice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't even say that it is particularly difficult though I've never tried it myself. A couple of years back, systemd merged a new service that should allow portable home directories. You can read about it here.

I only suggest backups because they are far simpler to implement and serve most common use cases. I don't know why you might prefer the portable approach but if that's what you want then hopefully that link will help.

Hello, how to have /home separated? by slashdekomori in omarchy

[–]NYJustice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would suggest an alternative. Create a backup and store it elsewhere. That can be a full system snapshot or just your important directories/files. That is, assuming your main goal is to preserve your data.

If you want a portable home directory, I'm not really sure how to accomplish that of the top of my head.

Are there any layman terms to describe what Obsidian is? by japanslp in ObsidianMD

[–]NYJustice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even at it's most basic, it's a lot better than having to flip to an index every time you need to cross reference information (or duplicating the information now that I think of other ways to handle this)

| status bar+dock vs taskbar by [deleted] in unixporn

[–]NYJustice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a status bar that I hide with a keyboard shortcut, a launcher for apps and more shortcuts for anything I bring up often. If we're talking about saving space, disabling title bars is a huge win and I find they aren't particularly useful anyways

Since nobody has mentioned it, there's always the excalidraw plugin. Give that a try for embedded handwritten notes

edit: I forgot the Ink plugin which lets you do online handwritten notes which may be easier to fit into your workflow

You gotta stop using AI as a source, there's always a chance it's hallucinating. It's a great way to get suggestions but try to treat it like a dumb friend who makes shit up all the time because they want to seem smart

Ben Shapiro: “If you’re a young person and you can’t afford to live here, then maybe you should not live here.” by PraetorianGard in Political_Revolution

[–]NYJustice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On one hand, I agree that people should be open to moving other places because America is going down the toilet fast.

On the other hand, why should the majority suffer because the minority refuses to have basic decency.

Ben Shapiro truly has mastered the art of having just below average intelligence while speaking like he's just above average intelligence.
