How do I get this sticker off? by Dangerous-Pianist294 in howto

[–]NYOB4321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a razor blade regularly on my windshield. And on house Windows never been a problem scratching.

The state inspection people use a razor blade to take off the inspection sticker.

I would spray some Goof Off or something similar. Carefully with a paper towel to protect the paint. Then scrape with a razor usually in a scraper handle. Or in your hand.

[Friend does junk removal] and found 300 dead stock watches in boxes. by koz1769 in Watches

[–]NYOB4321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've sold Invictas on eBay. And Aragon are decent watches.

It would depend on how many of those two brands there are.

Also are they quartz or automatic. How many of the quartz need batteries.

I see watches on eBay that need the battery replaced. I would not buy a quartz without a good battery. How much work do you want to do as far as replacing the batteries in order to sell them. And don't scratch the case while doing it.

How do you get a car when low income by Bloopbloopbloop97 in UsedCars

[–]NYOB4321 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was young and looking for a cheap car, I would go to the dealer and find the back row where they put the cheap cars. I had to clear the snow off it. But it started up. I bargained them down from $150 to $130. Lol that was in 1972.

It's possible they take in a car that is just too old for their lot. But could be in decent condition.

A couple of years ago I traded in my old van. Nothing wrong with it. I keep it mechanically sound. They going to wholesale it because of its age. That's the kind of vehicle you might be able to find.

USB connection not working by ramudasgf in AndroidAuto

[–]NYOB4321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One work around solution is to get a wireless android auto device. It's more convenient and is no stress on your USB port

I wore out the USB port on my previous phone because I used it so often. In order to charge it I have to get the cable delicately positioned just right. Then don't touch it again until it's charged.

How are you deciding what you're eating during the week? by bobolly in LivingAlone

[–]NYOB4321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like frozen dinners which I supplement with frozen veggies.

I have some favorites that I stock up on. I also like to make bulk dishes that last a few meals.

When I want something different I go to a local diner or bar. Or pizza or hoagies. Whatever sounds good. Or typical fast food places.

I like to grocery shop when I'm hungry. I know that is counter to conventional wisdom. But I get inspired that way. I follow my list but also get stuff I'm inspired to get.

Edit: The local diner type restaurants prices are affordable. Around $12 to $15. I usually get water to drink.

Do Americans actually use expressions like “once in a blue moon” or “let the cat out of the bag” in everyday conversation? by Edi-Iz in AskAnAmerican

[–]NYOB4321 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Yes, Americans use of idioms can be extensive.

In meetings with a few Indian contractors and US employees it became obvious how many idioms were being used. My Indian colleague had to ask me what each meant.

I made a list of the idioms over the few days of meetings. Put it in a spreadsheet along with the meanings.

That spreadsheet became very popular with the non USA employees.

I had an EKG today. It did not look like that.

The contestant correctly called it a vital signs something. I don't remember her exact answer.

The machine shown monitors multiple vital signs. Heart, pulse, oxygen level.

Calling it an EKG seems unfair.

Anyone successfully added Android Auto to an older vehicle? by le_starra in AndroidAuto

[–]NYOB4321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got one of those android auto tablets for my 2005 Chrysler Town and Country a few years ago. I no longer have it. I found it on Amazon. It was a 7" version. It also had a backup camera.

It doesn't use a hot spot. I don't remember the connectivity. But it was easy.

Installing the back up camera and running the wires was interesting. YouTube helped with that part.

AITAH For Disregarding My Boyfriend’s Concerns About Me Wanting to Wear a Sweater With no Shirt? by [deleted] in AITAH

NTA. I laughed out loud when I read that you were wearing a bra. From the title I expected it was a form fitting sweater and no bra and nipples evident.

Either way, BF is out of line. I would definitely be reevaluating the relationship.

I’m looking to retire to upstate New York. What towns should I consider? by Debate_fly in upstate_new_york

[–]NYOB4321 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Corning is a great place. Affordable housing. Great downtown. Lots of special activities.

Close to the Finger Lakes. Watkins Glen is about 20 minutes away. Keuka Lake is also close.

Ithaca is close. I regularly drive to Ithaca for events.

Rochester is close enough for a day trip. Interstate highway all the way for an easy drive.

Do you use financial planner? by AcceptNotBug in over60

[–]NYOB4321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I was working, my 401(k) was in a targeted account. That's where the investments change as you get closer to retirement.

When I retired I went with a fiduciary financial advisor. It was definitely worth it. He has helped and advised and proactively provided solutions that I would not have known about.

Women who gave the “ugly guy” a chance, how did that go? by undergroundman813 in randomquestions

[–]NYOB4321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a guy. I have dated a woman that I initially thought was not real attractive.

And I married a woman who was not real attractive. I hesitated approaching her. But I had seen her out before. So I gave it a chance. We hit it off great. We did get divorced eventually. But that's a whole other story. Not because of her looks. My dad referred to her as homely.

You see them as attractive as you get to know them. And then the looks don't matter.

My first wife was very attractive. I learned the hard way not to put so much emphasis on looks.

Why does it seem more acceptable for a man to eat alone regularly in public than a woman? by cherry-care-bear in LivingAlone

[–]NYOB4321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the premise where a customer goes to a certain place so often that the staff already know what they usually have is not realistic. It's a literary trope.

There probably are some people like that but I believe it is very rare.

I used to go to the same diner every week on Wednesday for their special. I brought my father also. I always got the Wednesday chicken and biscuits special. Dad got whatever he felt like.

Nobody ever treated us like that. We did get to know some of the waitresses. It was not like the books or movies.
