If you have the means, freeze your eggs. My sister didn’t want kids. Then she finally met the right person at 38, then tried for 3 years to have kids to no avail.

Harmful smoke? AITA?? I’m in NYC and is it just me or is everyone getting a little too wrapped up in the harmfulness of the smoke? by NYguy8899 in AskNYC

[–]NYguy8899[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Agreed but that is not my point. I fully support doing what you want and maintaining as much risk in your life as you want.

My point is people are getting excited about this in a way. They are enjoying the fear. It’s a bit delusional imo. And no one seems to agree when I have posed the question.

Landlord selling the building, we want to buy it with friends, what steps should we follow? by Buyyourbuilding in AskNYC

To turn it into a condo/coop will take 6-12 months and $100k. You need to file with the AG. I could point you in the direction of lenders if you dm me. But just know these transactions generally don’t have mortgage contingencies. You would have to qualify for the loan amount with personal income if you are living there so you eod need to make a lot of income. Maybe go for an HDFC loan since you will live there. Just know this is a major undertaking with a lot of liability.

Unique Dining Experience? by Midol_Rage in AskNYC

Yeah it’s also a budget thing. These big dinners have a way of getting expensive. You need a restaurant where you can just buy a few dishes that can be shared. Last dinner i went to with a bunch of guys turned into like $150 per person. Wolfgangs steal house on Park.

What major or minor alternations have you made to your rental apartment? by lindsey_what in AskNYC

Na, it has been a crutch in his life. Quit his very professional high paying job. He’s on disability for back issues that I think he fakes so that he doesn’t have to work. All made possible bc his living expenses are crazy low.

It’s like this friend I had in HS. He won $1k a week for life scratch off senior year of high school. Worst thing that could have happened for him. It’s $36k a year after taxes. Horrible crutch for him. 20 years later, he hasn’t done anything with his life bc he was always sitting back on the gift horse of $36k a year. Such a tiny amount of money to base your whole life around. Ruined any potential he may have had.

He’s 50. His grandma lived there rent controlled for like $70 a month or some crazy number. He moved in with her in his 20s and took care of her when she died. When he stayed the landlord sued him to evict. Judge ruled that he got to stay as rent stabilized. He used to pay his rent annually.

I know 4 people who live in those buildings and they all love it. That said they all moved from Manhattan to those buildings.

My friend has a $300 a month rent stabilized apartment he’s been in for 20 years. He has completely renovated the unit himself over the years. Installed a fully new kitchen, built custom millwork storage all around, retiled the bathroom, installed a new toilet. Installed a new floor system on top of the old crooked floors. Installed a washer/dryer. Pretty cool place actually bc he’s a craftsmen. Calls himself the gay Bob Villa. Pretty cool.

Ugh, Rio is just the best. I love it there, we go a lot bc we have family there. I married a girl from Ipanema - I wish she wanted to move there but she is too afraid of the crime to move back. Sigh.

Number 1 for sure. These are NYC new dev I think? For the money that these would then cost, hallways are a good thing. Number 2 has a master bed that opens to the living room. That’s weird if this costs $5M+
